Polanski wants private jet ban as fuel crisis looms

The Green Party’s Zack Polanski has called for a ban on private jets as a fuel crisis looms. The US and Israel’s unprovoked attack on Iran has left the global supply of fuel dangerously low. And, the crisis is set to become far more damaging in the coming weeks, with a potential need to ration fuel.

Polanski said:

🚨 NEW: Zack Polanski has called for the Government to temporarily ban private jet travel amid potential jet fuel shortages

"While ordinary people pay the price, the super rich are simply getting in their private jets at will – wasting huge amounts of jet fuel"

— Politics UK (@PolitlcsUK) May 3, 2026

Polanski is right to call attention to fuel crisis

The war on Iran led to the besieged state closing the Strait of Hormuz. This was a problem, because around 25% of the world’s seaborne oil passes through there. With the strait closed, the world is down by about 20 million barrels of oil a day.

We didn’t immediately feel the impact of this, because the ships which had already passed through the strait took several weeks to reach their destination. Now, the last of the ships to pass through are reaching port, with no more at sea coming to replace them.

In other words, even if the Strait of Hormuz reopens today, we are months away from those oil barrels reaching us.

Jet fuel is set to become increasingly scarce as a result of Trump’s war, with the BBC reporting:

Many airlines have already pushed up ticket prices as the cost of flying has increased, and some have trimmed their capacity. Unless extra supplies can be found, a lack of fuel could lead to further disruption and cancellations heading into the peak summer holiday period.

It added:

In late February, before the first US and Israeli airstrikes, jet fuel was trading at $831 per tonne in Europe. By early April, it had touched $1838 – an increase of more than 120%. It has since retreated but has consistently remained above $1500.

Protecting Britons

In response to the crisis, Zack Polanski has now said:

Many British families look forward year-round to their summer holiday abroad – and now face their flights being cancelled as the impact of Trump’s illegal war in Iran ripples across the globe.

Yet instead of acting to prevent ordinary Brits being hit by the crisis, the government seems to be telling people that they’ll simply have to put up or shut up as their plans are ruined.

This is a choice. While ordinary people pay the price, the super rich are simply getting in their private jets at will – wasting huge amounts of jet fuel on unnecessary trips.

As we reported on Sunday 3 May, Nigel Farage is among the wealthy few who are taking an alarming number of private jet trips (some which are linked to Reform ‘mega-donors’)

Seems @Nigel_Farage is addicted to private jet travel.

He's taken over 60 private jet flights in the UK alone this year. This doesn't include international flights to the USA and Davos, and doesn't include helicopter flights.

Back to Polanski, he finished:

The government should act now: put in place a temporary ban on non-essential private jet travel to save the summer holiday for the families who have worked hard to save for it.

Global cooperation

As the Greens added:

Polanski’s call comes after a group of Members of the European Parliament urged the European Commission to impose a temporary EU-wide ban on non-essential private jet travel.

Dealing with this fuel crisis is going to take international coordination. We know Farage is against the sort of “EU-wide” cooperation mentioned above; at the same time, he was initially supportive of Trump’s catastrophic war on Iran.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the world cannot function when it’s run by billionaire-backed war mongers.
