It’s simple to launch an online store. However, attracting clients’ attention and persuading them to make a purchase is not. Fortunately, you can persuade clients to make a purchase in several different ways. One of those ways is to work on your e-commerce website design.

Generally speaking, web design leaves a positive first impression on a business. It also enables you to increase your credibility with clients. More significantly, a striking website design can set your online store apart.

E-commerce site design, nevertheless, can be difficult to get right. This is because a thorough grasp of user experience is more important than aesthetics. However, you can start by being aware of the design mistakes you should avoid to increase sales for your online business.

In this blog, we discuss the most common e-commerce website design mistakes that you should avoid if you want to optimise your website and stand out from the crowd. These mistakes include:

1. Not making the site mobile-friendly

Most users or audiences utilise mobile devices instead of other devices to browse products and visit e-commerce websites. Therefore, your business’s visibility and traffic will suffer if your website is not mobile-friendly. For this reason, it’s important to make your e-commerce website mobile-friendly while creating a design.

To attract more potential clients, ensure that the design elements are clear, consistent, and similar across desktop and mobile platforms.

2. Poor or confusing navigation

If you’ve ever visited a physical store and couldn’t find what you were looking for, you understand how aggravating it can be. Product categories are used in well-designed stores, and signs are positioned prominently to make things easier for customers to find. The same should apply to your e-commerce website.

One of the main reasons visitors leave your page is poor or unclear navigation. This can cost you money, your good reputation, and loyal customers. To avoid this mistake, make sure that your website’s navigation is intuitive, clear, and easy to use.

3. A lack of detailed product information

The benefit of buying at a physical store is that you can pick up an item, feel it, examine it from all sides, and read any labels or packaging that contain information. Online shopping eliminates that connection. E-commerce websites should make every effort to enhance the in-store purchasing experience.

Give as much information as you can on the product, including its dimensions, weight, materials, sizes, and any other relevant information based on the nature of the product. For instance, in an online clothing store, you may provide the type of fabric, the sizes and colors that are offered, a sizing chart, the item’s weight or thickness, its cut and fit, care instructions, and remarks regarding the designer or brand. A more significant impression on the customer can be achieved by using descriptive language instead of just technical terms.

4. Using low-quality images

Poor-quality images are detrimental to your e-commerce site’s ability to generate sales because they will make no one feel pressured to buy one of your products.

Using a lot of stock photos on a website is one of the worst mistakes people make. Nothing about this distinguishes your brand. It hurts it. Instead, you should ensure that you have a wide variety of product images that highlight your products from different angles so that customers know exactly what they are purchasing. Using a photo collage allows you to showcase your product images from various angles. You may quickly and simply produce a collage that showcases the salient characteristics of your product by using a photo collage maker.

5. Not including contact info

Nothing irritates a potential customer more than trying to contact your team but being unable to do so because your contact details are difficult to find. This can result in a frustrated client, a missed opportunity to close a deal, or even a negative review on your business’s page.

Your contact details should be prominently displayed and simple to find. Make it simple for your target audience to get in touch with you by prominently displaying your contact information on the header, footer, or dedicated contact page. Provide all the information that your consumers need, including a phone number and email address, to enable them to contact you quickly.

6. Missing call-to-action

Let’s say you see a product that catches your eye and has a captivating description. You want to buy it, but you can’t find a call to action or instructions on how to do so. In such a situation, you might decide to delay your purchase, switch to a different online retailer, or change your mind.

Therefore, it would be wise to include call-to-action buttons in strategic locations and use eye-catching colors to make them stand out from other elements in order to increase the lead conversion rate. Additionally, be clear about the button’s function. For example, “Add to Cart” can indicate that the buyers are prepared to purchase the item. However, “Add to Wishlist” can suggest that they are still thinking about it.

Wrapping it up

It would be simpler for you to design an intuitive e-commerce website if you keep these common mistakes in mind. It also aids in maintaining consistency throughout your online store. After all, design planning plays a big part in the success of an online business that wants to take advantage of the trends in online purchasing.

This is a spot-on list. Many founders focus so much on aesthetics that they completely neglect the checkout experience, which is essentially the final step of your design. If the payment flow is clunky or lacks variety, you’re going to lose customers right at the finish line. Integrating a robust solution like Corefy payments can really help bridge that gap, ensuring that the backend performance matches the high quality of your site’s design. It keeps the transaction process invisible and seamless, which is exactly what a good user experience should be

Many online stores lose customers because of avoidable usability issues, so focusing on navigation and checkout really pays off. Finding practical development tips on smarty plus net is also worthwhile when improving an e-commerce website and creating a smoother shopping experience.
