Highlights Announced At PlayStation State of Play in June 2025

Sony PlayStation kicked off the summer with a new State of Play showcase on June 4, where they provided the latest updates on games and new releases. Some announcements were expected, while others created a buzz among players who were eagerly watching the 50-minute presentation. 

PlayStation has long used the State of Play presentations to inform gamers of upcoming titles, game upgrades, and new hardware, like controllers. The presentation creates a buzz around the most popular games, whether it’s new games in the PlayStation Store’s casino collection or upgrades to fan favourites like slot games or RPGs. The store is giving the best and most popular online casinos in the UK a run for their money when it comes to gaming choice. However, when it comes to withdrawal times and sheer convenience, online igaming remains king. 

Highlights From State of Play

Some of the biggest PS5 games were teased through trailers, as well as updates to much-loved existing games.

Ghost of Yotei

Ghost of Yotei is the much-anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. All the teaser trailer really showed was that the game will be played in a samurai world. The trailer didn’t reveal much else, mostly just the vibes of the game. A detailed trailer showing the gameplay will be released in July, and the game is set to launch on October 2, 2025. 

Lumines Arise

Despite not unveiling any news about the release date, fans of the Lumines universe are excited that the game will offer VR integration. The puzzle game is returning with Lumines Arise, and the game seem to share similarities with another game from the creators, Tetris Effect. 

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls

Sony is bringing a new Marvel fighting game to our consoles with Tokon: Fighting Souls. The game comes from Arc System Works, which has developed top titles Guilty Gear, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and the BlazBlue series. 

Marvel Tokon will feature 4v4 team fights and new fits for Marvel’s best heroes. Based on the trailer, it seems reminiscent of the Marvel vs. Capcom game. The game will be released on PS5 in 2026, which coincidentally aligns with the release of PlayStation’s new fight stick. 

Silent Hill F

Another tease for the newest Silent Hill game. Silent Hill F is set in Japan in the 1960s, and features the main character, a schoolgirl named Hinako. She has to fight her way across a dimly lit town, as monsters hide around each corner. The game is being launched on September 25, 2025. 

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles

Sony has remastered the classic Final Fantasy Tactics game and is presenting two versions: the OG 1998 game, along with a new and improved version, with better graphics and voiced dialogue. 

The Ivalice Chronicles remake takes players back to a time before, when Final Fantasy wasn’t an action-packed RPG or turn-based game. It adopts the look of a strategy game, where Ramza Beoulve builds his army to fight in the Lion War. The title is launching in September.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger

The newest installment from the Digimon world is an anime-style RPG set in Japan. According to the game’s description, it’s an “epic story that unravels the mystery of the world’s collapse.” Digimon Story: Time Stranger will be released on October 3, 2025. 

Astro Bot

Many could not contain their excitement when Sony announced new levels in Astro Bot. There will be five new levels as well as many new bots to discover (with a cameo from Atsu from Ghosts of Yotei). The new levels will be available from July 10, 2025. 

007 First Light

The State of Play surprised viewers with the first trailer for 007 First Light. The James Bond game does not yet have a release date, but it is likely launching in 2026. From the teaser trailer, it appears that the game will follow 007’s origins in the 1960s.
