The apparent imminent implosion of the Your Party – before it has even officially become a party, yet with approaching a million supporters – is the worst example of destructive factionalism since the Labour right deliberately sabotaged Labour in 2017 and 2019 and sentenced hundreds of thousands to death in the pandemic, and millions to grinding poverty, under the Tories.
Your Party: a day of uncertainty
An email was sent out from Your Party to supporters informing them how to subscribe as members, which was then as quickly disowned by those close to Jeremy Corbyn and painted, initially, as the result of ‘hacking’ – while at the same time being endorsed as genuine by Zarah Sultana and others.
A letter in the name of Corbyn and other independent MPs – but not including Sultana – was then sent out stating that the email was ‘unauthorised’ – and again trying to put the brakes on a process that has already been glacial:

In response, Sultana put out her own statement acknowledging that Corbyn had not authorised the membership email, but appearing to declare war by stating that she had been “sidelined” and “frozen out” by a “sexist boys club” and naming Karie Murphy, Corbyn’s chief of staff, as an issue:

Sultana’s statement also called on Corbyn to meet face to face.
The situation has allowed the working class’s enemies in the ‘mainstream’ media to make hay and exult over the implosion. This is an unforgivable situation.
Unforgivable
The grassroots are looking at this – the best word is ‘shitshow’ – and wondering who the hell is allowing ego and the desire for control to sabotage this country’s best hope of getting out of the fascism it has been dragged into by Keir Starmer and the blue Tories that preceded him. They will not forgive whoever is seen to have destroyed the party that is supposed to represent a mass movement – nor for that matter anyone seen not to have done enough to prevent it.
Corbyn and Zarah must meet in person and they must do it right the hell now. And they must do it without hangers-on, face to face, just them. This has to be about the movement and the class war that is being waged against millions, not about interests, egos or identity.
Corbyn has been criticised in the past for a lack of ruthlessness, not always fairly – but both ‘co-founders’ must be ruthless now, with themselves and with anyone in their team who has helped create this situation, no matter how hard that is.
Corbyn is the movement’s figurehead and without Sultana the movement would still be waiting for Your Party to exist even on paper – but both Corbyn and Sultana risk destroying their legacies through this nonsense. To avoid it requires action and the removal of anyone letting ego or control-freakery knock the wheels off.
Now.

So who has my money and am I a member? Will I get a refund, do I need to block the transaction, or do I leave it as it is? This still hasn’t been clearly communicated. I’ve written to Zarah Sultana for clarification.
How not to start a political party! It should exist already. The country needs it. Instead we’ve got these power-games being played. Sultana’s point that no one person should have sole control over members’ money and sole constitutional control of the conference is a good one.
Karie Murphy was involved in Labour’s caving in to the pro-Israel lobby. I wouldn’t want her wielding too much power within the new party.
What is Karie Murphy bringing to the party, her ‘legendary campaigning skills’ ?
😏
I “joined” immediately. And almost as immediately emailed to say “Don’t argue in public!” We’re desperate for this party to get up and running. Let’s just ask those organising it to put aside personal issues and get the bloody thing off the ground PRONTO!
I’m sorry to have to say it, but I’m coming to the conclusion that Corbyn – and especially his ‘advisers ‘ – will have to be side-lined if any progress is to be made.
I get the impression that his team are a clique who want to run the show – and if they cant have their way, they’ll collapse the whole thing.
Is it going to be Your Party … or just another Their Party ?
I have to say I’m inclined to agree with you, Red. Having the same chief of staff as last time doesn’t inspire confidence. And he STILL hasn’t declared himself an anti-Zionist yet…
The sign ups are because of Corbyn. There is no party that does not at tleast ‘start’ with him. Do you think Zara Sultana would generate nearly a million sign ups. If this project goes its own way without Corbyn (and there are many who are trying to strip the project of Corbyn) it will fall flat on its face, no doubt the intent of this move by Sultana.
The definition of insanity according to Einstein is keep doing the same things expecting different results. I also believe that pass behaviour is the best predictor of future behaviour.
Zarah Sultana needs to understand that Corbyn doesn’t like to be confronted and when it comes to it, Corbyn is going to stand by Adnan Hussein rather than Zarah Sultana.
Sultana criticism towards Hussein over the transgender’s issue risk to divide Your Party before even the founding Conference. Since when a position on transgender issues is a litmus test for socialism? Personally, as a woman I don’t see anything wrong with Hussein’s statement. Zarah is entitled to her opinion but, so I and many other women are entitled to ours.
Trans women are Transexuals but it doesn’t make them women but, rather Trans women. Are trans women discriminated? Sure they are. Do we need to fight for equality for all? Sure we do.
However, to insist that transgender women are women, isn’t helping. It would be better to dismantle all the legislation that is transphobic, for example allow trans teenagers to access hormone treatment before they are 18 years of age without parental permission, providing that the are consider Gilly competent. Also trans gender should be included as a separate protective characteristic in the Equality Act 2010.
Transgender should be campaigning for their own spaces, rather than try to take on women spaces in sport, changing rooms etc.
Would I stop a trans woman for using a women public toilet? No I wouldn’t, as I understand the dangers that a trans woman could face in using a men’s toilet.
However, I prefer to keep women spaces women only. Since the dawn of times women all over the world regardless or race, class, nationality etc have shared certain rites of passage such as the onset of the menarche and the menopause.
Thus, I agree with the rule of the Supreme Court that judged that the noun women is related to sex and as such as biological characteristic rather than gender that is a social construct.
In Thailand Lady boys are recognised as a different gender and in India the Hajiras are recognised as third legal gender too. Why no follow their examples?
Need to be ruthless here and kick her out of the party. She is either an ifiltrator, or has a massive deficit in judgement, she has sabotaged the movement. Then to go on and blame the other founders of sexism, when she unilaterally made a new domain to register members…needs to go and quick
There is no “party” persay and if she had not made the initial announcement there still wouldn’t be, since when thousands of activists and volunteers have been organising , holding meetings and setting up local groups. The movement is building only because of Zarahs actions. This movement is a growing grassroots bottom up organisation and now it’s started will not rely on either Jeremy or Zarah ultimately. The ball is rolling and with so many of us involved it cannot be stopped. It will be much easier with both of them to support us but not impossible to do it without them.
Disagree 1000%. Its all about trust and optics. Jeremy has proved himself and has the following. He is the reason this ‘fledgling’ party has nearly a million provisional sign ups. To unilaterally create a new domain and create a sign up portal thus dividing the movement, is a very obvious act of sabotage. If she did not mean it as sabotage, then she has insanely bad judgement. Either way she cannot be allowedd to continue in the ‘fledgling’ party. There is going to be a massive problem with infiltration and sabotage, and the founders need to get on top of it from day 1.
@gamecabbage : you seem rather keen of promoting divide and rule.
What we really don’t need is Labour Party 2.0 . Nor a faction promoting a ‘leader’ who will be 80 (and presumably not standing) at the next general election.
We need to look to the future – and Sultana has far more future ahead of her than Corbyn,.
I supported Corbyn in 2017 and 2019, but with hindsight I have to admit he let us all down with his attempts to appease the zionists. You cant appease the unappeasable, they’ll just demand more and more. That timidness helped lead us to Starmer as well as the rise of Reform by destroying the base that might have successfully opposed them. Now we seem to see the same people intent on making the same mistakes, with the inevitable same results. Only next time it might be Farage rather than Starmer they let in.
Sultana has proclaimed herself anti-zionist, Corbyn, despite what they did to him, seems unable to do so. That says it all. Thanks Jeremy, but time for a new game plan…
Its not me that is promoting divide an rule. The move by Sultana and others is s huge and very obvious attempt at division. Trying to spin it otherwise on here simply isn’t cutting it, and it is extremely blatant and obvious.
gamecabbage – Have you read this? 🤔
MOU Operations Ltd was set up before the launch of Your Party’s website went live on the 24th of July. It was approved by Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana to be the custodian of the donations. All the donations encouraged by both Zarah and Jeremy, or anyone else, went into this bank account, with their approval. The recent email launching a membership system uses exactly the same payment system, and goes into the same bank account.

I don’t trust Corbyn’s advisors, I think they want to control this Party. That’s not what I signed up for.
This project either returns to a Class based collective political base or it falls flat on its backside.
There is no room for any more manufactured hierarchies of oppression and jostling for position at the top of that manufactured hierarchy. Because that individualist and atomised approach simply divides and fractures any collective class politics. It alienates people, undermines solidarity, and has more in common with the sovereign individualist approach of Rand and Thatcher.
Michael Parenti skewered this nonsense twenty odd years back:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkttzU86CFE
That draught which has suddenly appeared is at least 51% of the populace standing up to leave the room.
Absolutely agree with Dave here. This new party either grows up right away and learns what solidarity is really about or the whole thing is a total failure. That Michael Parenti clip nails it. People need to think what are we are fundamentally trying to achieve here. There is no room for egos. The stakes are too high.
There were bound to be ‘disruptors’ set up to infiltrate this project of course, because if the project were to be successful, it wouldn’t serve the status quo.
I would suggest bring Corbyn, Zarah, Murphy, Feinstein, and Varoufakis together in a recorded meeting, to discuss how they view the path forward. Murphy is hiding too much in the shadows, and we need to know what SHE thinks and is thinking – and to present that to highly experienced and critical people, and then to the YP membership.
If Zarah wishes to form her OWN party, then she is entitled to do so, though with FPTP I rather doubt she’ll even win her own constituency – even if the “Greens stand down in an alliance” there.
This shitshow needs sorting NOW. According to rumours, Corbyn prefers a federation of loosely aligned local parties – if this IS the case, then those local parties need the info as Alan Story mentioned.
Dear oh dear.
Anyone wanting to join a democratically run left wing political party, contact the Green Party.
Open and welcoming to everyone. You can have your say and your vote will count the same as the next member. The future is bright, it will be green. ✅
Apart from the cult in charge of the GPEW making Murphy look like an inclusivity cheerleader, you may have a point. As long as you GET a vote, which if you are flagged as having ‘Wrong Thought’, you won’t. Although they will continue to take your money.
@Tom Clother : funnily enough, I looked into the Green Party when Starmer took over Labour.
Looking for my constituency party, the Greens website link directed me to a Facebook page which hadn’t had had any posts for a couple of years (in any case I’d rather not touch Facebook with a bargepole, automatically excluding me).
No contact details or anything. Candidates appeared at election time, so presumably someone was making decisions, but it seemed like a secret society to an outsider. I gave up.
I signed up the day before this all blew up, we do not need this as it’s just ammunition for others to shoot the party down, sort it out quickly, make it work and get it sorted because this country must not go to another general election with the likes of Reform or any other party that’s right wing, if needs be I’ll vote green but I’d rather vote a party I feel part of and I can trust. We need the truth and a movement that is committed to bringing the country back from those that want to make a fascist regime and give orange a foot hold in to our nation.
I signed up on the monthly £5 arrangement and, like an earlier poster, am now uncertain as to the status of this arrangement. It is not helpful to fuel the division by adopting a team Corbyn or Team Sultana position – both have their strengths and their flaws – but whatever is behind this needs to be resolved quickly if the whole edifice is not to collpase. As the article notes, this would be a blow to the many of us who have hope and energy desperate to be directed toward something that rejects the current malaise and leads us to a better world.
Any fledgling party will have growing pains, lacking the infrastructure, collective knowledgde and familiarity the established parties have – Reform is a case in point and they have the benefit of a friendly press that certainly will not be the case with Yourparty. Right now the party has no determined name but it does conjure up a very strong image, that of Diana Ross at the 1994 World Cup.
