Fox News melts down over Grindr surge wherever ICE goes

Presenters at far-right US ‘news’ channel Fox News have gone into meltdown over a surge in use of gay hook-up app ‘Grindr’ in Minneapolis and other cities targeted by Trump’s ICE units.

The coiffed drones are clearly struggling after local people noticed the surge and started asking gay friends to report any ICE thugs they see joining the app in their area. In a vain attempt to get ahead of the story, Fox featured locals talking about it and tried to claim they are somehow being homophobic.

But it doesn’t fly — even the dimmest bulb in the box knows this isn’t about ICE agents being LGBTQ.

During the Algerian struggle against French colonial rule, women navigated the occupier’s obsessive and racialised surveillance by moving through spaces the coloniser failed to read properly — their veil.

Using a dating app to identify ICE presence isn’t “homophobia”. It’s counter-surveillance. It’s community protection. And it follows a long history of people turning the tools of ordinary life into ways of resisting state violence.

As Franz Fannon famously said:

The woman who sees without being seen frustrates the coloniser.

Enjoy:
