A new damning Select Committee report once again exposed the dangers of the assisted dying bill
While it was smooth-sailing for Kim Leadbeater’s assisted dying bill through the House of Commons, peers are now scrutinising the...
Hannah became a Canary writer (much to her ongoing surprise!) in 2023. She had participated in the Canary's Amplify training and mentorship scheme throughout 2022. During her time on the scheme, she learnt the fundamentals of journalism and had her first experience of a (virtual) newsroom. As a climate activist, Hannah has taken non-violent direct action against multiple planet-wrecking corporations. When her health is better, she plans to do far more. She has also co-organised grassroots campaigns against local fossil fuel projects. Hannah completed an MA in Investigative Reporting at Birkbeck University in 2017. She hoped to develop her research and writing skills to put to use within the movement for climate justice. Since her degree, when her health has allowed, she has used these skills to help local groups investigate, expose and hold exploitative industries to account. Her favourite headline of all time (though not hers) channels feminist writer Flavia Dzodan's famous quote in the context of calls for climate justice: My environmentalism will be intersectional, or it will be bullshit. Hannah wants to be the kind of environmental journalist who centres local and international struggles for social justice and liberation. She feels these are inextricably linked to both the causes and solutions to the climate and ecological crises and integral to building a more equitable world. In this particularly, she knows she still has a lot to learn.
