After more than two years since Gaza resident Huda Al Aqqad, and her 77-year-old mother Aisha, were disappeared, the women have now appeared in a photo posted by an Israeli soldier.

This soldier is now implicating himself in their abduction. Meanwhile, the Aqqad family does not know if they have been killed. Nor do they know if the women are held in Israeli torture camps without trial.

On this rare occasion, the story has been picked up by mainstream media outlet, Sky News, thanks to an investigation by the Global Legal Action Network (GLAN).

Aisha and her 78 year old mum vanished in Gaza and no-one knows what happened to them.

But guess what. Months later their family discovered a photograph that had been posted by an Israeli soldier on social media that showed the two women blindfolded in the back of an IDF vehicle pic.twitter.com/3ww4V8mnEn

The faces of the criminal abductors are clear in the image:

In a post on its social media, GLAN said:

Two years after they disappeared – where are Huda and Aisha Al Aqqad?

A report by GLAN’s open-source investigations team with @skynews has revealed that Palestinian mother and daughter, Aisha Bakr Ahmed Al-Aqqad (77) and Huda Mohammed Assouli Al-Aqqad (41) were abducted by Israeli soldiers from Khan Younis in late 2023 and have since vanished.

Their fate remains unknown.

Israeli military claims about their alleged release are unreliable, and there are no records of them being in detention, or records of their deaths. Two years after they were last seen, their family is seeking the truth about their loved ones. Israel must share the truth immediately and allow investigators and investigative equipment to reach Gaza so that the fate of all missing civilians can be determined.

The treatment of the Al-Aqqad family violates several fundamental guarantees towards civilians in times of war provided for in the Geneva Coventions, including the right to due process and humane treatment.

This investigation evidences a pattern of widely documented breaches of international law by Israeli forces. Protections for civilians that have been codified into international humanitarian law are systematically ignored by Israel.
