On an emotionally charged evening at Lusail Stadium, the Palestinian national team snatched a dramatic 2-2 draw against Tunisia in the second round of the group stage of the 2025 football Arab Cup.

Palestine vs Tunisia: a draw that felt like a win in the Arab Cup

After falling behind by two goals, the Palestinian players rallied with one heart and unyielding determination, turning the game around and snatching a valuable point to top Group A of the Arab Cup with four points. The group now stands as:

1. Palestine (4 points)
2. Syria (4 points)
3. Qatar (1 point)
4. Tunisia (1 point)

Comeback under pressure

A shaky start by Palestine allowed Tunisia to take an early lead, but the collapse of the score did not lead to a collapse of spirit. The Palestinian team appeared transformed in the second half of this Arab Cup match, fighting for every ball, charging forward without hesitation, and displaying the cohesion befitting a team accustomed to standing on the edge.

In a long-awaited moment of explosion, the killer equaliser ignited the stands and created a scene that will remain etched in the memory of this Arab Cup tournament.

Palestine was not alone on the pitch of this Arab Cup match. The stands were packed with fans of different nationalities, waving Palestinian flags and chanting the Fida’i as if they were embracing a wounded homeland. It was a humanitarian scene before it was a sporting one; voices chanting from the heart of Doha towards Gaza, as if to say: we cannot stop the war… but we can give you a moment of joy.

With this Arab Cup result and performance, the team came close to qualifying for the next round of the Arab Cup, but the deeper achievement was elsewhere: in the eyes that touched the screens inside the tents of the displaced in Gaza, in the smile of a child who lost his home, and in the tears of a mother who saw the Palestinian flag flying high, far from the sound of bombing:

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Arab Cup

The Palestinian team did not just earn a draw in this Arab Cup match… It earned its right to joy and its people’s right to a moment of respite.

It wrote on the grass of Lusail that sport may not stop wars, but it can give people back a little bit of life.

In the other match in the same group, Syria snatched a draw (1-1) to put Qatar in a crisis after losing to Palestine in the first round.

The third round of Arab Cup matches matches will be played on Sunday, with Palestine facing Syria and Qatar playing Tunisia.
