Canary to launch a daily newspaper – and they’re going to hate it

After 10 years of bringing you truth without agenda online, the Canary has now done what no left-wing media outlet has done in decades: launch a daily print newspaper. It is set to challenge every mainstream media outlet. Plus, it will bring the Canary’s no-nonsense news that disrupts power to a wider audience. And, you just know the MSM and establishment are going to hate it, too. But why the hell would we do this at a time when fewer and fewer people are actually buying newspapers?

Meet the Canary (again)

If you don’t know the Canary, we launched in October 2015 with a budget of just £500. Since then, we’ve made it our job to hold the powerful to account. We’ve done this by publishing stories that matter to you, the ordinary person. And we’ve always done this, whether the state, the rich and powerful, and the corporate media like it or not.

We’ve consistently held the right-wing in the UK and beyond to account – whether that be the Tories, Reform, or this latest version we’re apparently calling the Labour Party. The Canary has never shied away from calling a spade a spade – and that includes the genocidal, ethnonationalist, pseudo-state of Israel and the racist Zionist ideology that runs and maintains it.

What’s also been central to what we do is disrupting the system that keeps most of us oppressed in one way or another. For the Canary, everything is connected – whether that’s the Zionist-led genocide against the Palestinian people that’s seen the IDF decapitating children on TikTok or supermarkets price-gouging your loaf of bread while crying because their rich shareholders need even more profit.

Profiting off our misery

To many people, these events may seem unrelated. But they are absolutely not. The same people that profit off the mass-slaughter of Black and Brown people in Palestine, Lebanon, and Sudan are the same people who profit off you paying £1.40 for some bread.

These are the same people that profit off companies like Palantir spying on you and buying your data. They profit off the continuous massive increases in your energy bills. And they also profit off you not being able to afford to drive your car – while not being able to afford a train fare either.

However, there’s a common theme with rich and powerful people who literally don’t care if you live or die. They are all mates with, and backed by, most politicians.

The Zionists responsible for killing 20,000 children in Gaza; the shareholders laughing while you can’t afford bread; the big tech companies using your information to make money, and the oil barons who mean you can’t afford to fill up your tank: they all have Nigel Farage, Kemi Badenoch, and Keir Starmer in their back pockets or up their arses.

We think that’s bullshit – and that it needs to change. But that change can only happen if everyone has access to the information they need to make the choice to change in the first place.

That’s where the Canary’s daily print newspaper comes in.

We can all make change

We know that left-wing politics is inaccessible for many people. And we also know that around four million people in the UK don’t have the internet at home. So, we want to bring the truth about what is going on in the world to a whole new audience. That’s the voters left-wing politicians and other media have ignored or been too stuck-up to talk to: working-class people who hold down two jobs and only have time to get their news via a daily paper or TV.

The so-called left-wing in this country have ignored millions of people for too long. We think that needs to change. And by having the Canary next to the Sun, the Mirror, and the Daily Mail, we can give more people the chance to actually read the news – not propaganda.

So, welcome to the Canary in print. £1.20. Monday to Friday. Across England and Wales. We’d love you to join us each day – and let’s start making that change together.

Use our interactive map to find your nearest stockist. Yellow pins are newsagents where the Canary will be available from Tuesday 26 May. Red ones are newsagents that are coming soon. And yes, we are already working on a home delivery option, too!

Me too – perhaps there the Mirror (and others) will step down off the fence and start condenning the ethno-fascists that inhabit too many positions of power, and that includes Starmer, farrago the fascist, the NAZI yaxley-lennon and semi-badenough (who is actually bad enough as it is). We MUST also stop sucking up to trumpty dumpty and tell him to get ALL U.S. forces personnel out of the U.K. or end his ILLEGAL TERRORIST attack on Iraq. WE should NOT be a static aircraft carrier for his TERRORIST attacks.

What a load of bollocks. This attempt to undermine Polanski, and the Green Party, by suggesting it was his fault that the motion to declare that “Zionism is Racism” was fillibustered off the agenda, will not work. The inevitable pro-zionist lobby within the Greens, who orchestrated this anti-democratic obstruction, will never hold sway in the party.

Great news! There is definitely a large gap in the market for a non-aligned Left newspaper. I hope it goes well and becomes available in my area.
There are some internet providers who offer a social tariff that’s the cheapest rate and renewed monthly. No contract.

We already have the socialist Morning Star, Mon – Sat, a cooperative and outstanding newspaper. Available in Scotland also.

      Reply
      • Steve Mirrors says:

This is correct. I’ve not seen anything in the Canary’s trailing of this newspaper which explains what it’s trying to do that the Morning Star doesn’t do already, other than being “sweary”. Which isn’t exactly a political objective. All in favour of media pluralism but don’t pretend that there isn’t already a left-wing tabloid.

        Reply
        • Grenville Wade says:

The Morning Star, although on the side of the UK Labour movement; does not say anything critical about authoritaian countries like China, and its human rights abuses.. Also, it has run favourable articles about the Soviet Union under Stalin. For anyone who is a democratic socialist, and believe in human rights, to read the Morning Star is not an option.. Therefore the Canary, which takes an independent left wing critical stance on politics, and on the authoritarian nature of Communist Countries, is a welcome addition as a left wing Dailly newspaper. The Morning Star’s editorial line is based on the Communist Party of Britain’s programme of the British Road to Socialism.

Oh come on. Do you resent journalists getting paid even that pittance? Doesn’t everybody realise they’re just taking that ad money for ads that nobody looks at, from companies that have money to burn and have taken it all off the people anyway. Its quite a smart move imho.

What the Canary should do, is extend that to the new physical edition, make it a free paper distributed more widely.

PS Canary, feel free to delete this comment if it might affect you getting those ad campaigns. Anyone with a brain understands what’s going on.

Considerably less annoying than the ads on YT every 40secs, that you can’t even skip past.

Although sadly the several ad-blockers I use don’t hide the Canary revenue articles like they do YT ads. lmao.

£30 a week extra seems a lot for many people to consider when they don’t have the time to read newspapers anyway. Love The Canary but have my doubts about this. Extremes of left and right will never successfully rule the country, but Hungary has just shown a party (with no history) can win hugely by attracting people from across the political spectrum. and the main element of it is transparency, with the new leaders speaking daily to the population about what they are doing to improve lives and how they are tackling corruption. None are career MPs either – none have been MPs before, but they bring huge knowledge and experience to the Govt. Not sure how you do it in a country of 66 million people!!

I’d like to see it reviewed every night on TV along with the, currently absent, Morning Star. People need to have access to the full spectrum of media & press and maybe then we’d get more of those uncomfortable questions asked that the establishment doesn’t want aired.
