TalkTV once again withholding critical information to pursue smear campaign against Green Party

Talk TV host and ‘journalist’ Julia Brewer has once again attempted to smear the Green Party as having “a problem with antisemitism.” However, she’s ended up exposing her own Islamophobia in the process.

Speaking to Green Party activist Ashok Kumar, Brewer tried and failed to make antisemitism claims stick as Kumar corrected the record regarding the candidates under investigation, bringing much needed clarity as to the allegations levelled against them.

Acknowledging that the huge rise of the Green Party may have affected vetting procedure, Kumar highlighted how the main offence attributed to this persecuted group of candidates is that they have long called out Zionist Israel and its genocide of Palestinians.

A genocide that, coincidentally, far-right Brewer has yet to denounce or cover with even the slightest bit of journalistic integrity.

I dismantle the “Green Party antisemitism” smear point by point until Julie Hartley-Brewer can’t name a single example.

The one she finally reaches for? Her own Islamophobia.

Green party served another dose of hypocrisy

Despite ample coverage bringing considerable doubt to the cynical suggestion that the recent stabbing in Golders Green was a targeted, antisemitic attack, Brewer doubled down on the tragic incident working in the interests of a highly politicised smear campaign to attempt to diminish opposition to the far-right.

As usual, Brewer resorted to race-baiting by describing the stabbing as an “Islamist attack,” while deliberately withholding the fact that the first person attacked was a Muslim man. That omission is hardly surprising, because once you acknowledge that fact, the incident points far more clearly to chronic underinvestment in mental health services – and to the failures of Wes Streeting’s NHS policies – than to any straightforward narrative about antisemitism.

Shutting down this blatant politically motivated smear campaign against the Green’s, who also happen to be the only national party with a Jewish leader, Kumar made sure viewers knew all the details rather than just what Brewer selectively wished to portray:

Ashok Kumar: OK, so firstly, you know, we have over 4,500 candidates. We’ve gone from a party six months ago that was 60,000 to now having 230,000. And so, yeah, of course, there needs to be a more thorough vetting process.

But it’s not that those 30 candidates are being investigated for antisemitism. They’re being investigated for a series of comments; some of them racist, some of them sexist, or the accusations of that.

Kumar then reminded Brewer that no one has been found guilty of any of the allegations levelled against them as yet and drew further attention to what they are unashamedly guilty of; opposing Israel’s genocide of Palestinians.

What about racist, sexist, antisemitic Reform UK?

Brewer then doubled down in an attempt to say the Green Party is appealing to antisemites, whilst conveniently ignoring the blatant antisemitism on show from Reform candidates and the gross caricatures pushed through the billionaire-press:

Kumar: Do you think that Reform is racist and sexist party because of the dossier that was released by Labour last week?

Brewer: I don’t think so, but I think they do have a problem.

Another Reform activist just got exposed for antisemitism, and once again there's crickets from mainstream journalists and politicians

Come on, that just doesn’t even make sense – they have a problem but equally she doesn’t think they do; make that make sense? Kumar equally pointed out the blatant double standard where there seems to be one rule for Reform’s racism, and another for left-wingers. Frankly, this just exposes the fact that the real offending issue is not only criticism of Israel, but anyone who champions left-wing politics:

Kumar: I don’t think there’s a problem with anti-Semitism. I think that a small proportion, a small proportion of candidates who’ve said things in the past, they’re being now investigated. 4,500 candidates is an indication.

Brewer: There are questions about the likes on posts and the retweeting posts from not only Zack Polanski, but also both deputy leaders as well. That would suggest there is an issue.

Cue frantic rustling through wades of paper to find any real example of antisemitism retweeted by the Green’s leaders and deputies when asked for specific examples to support the accusations:

Brewer: There are so many pieces of paper in front of me.

No, no, no. I’ll message you afterwards, but you will have seen them.

In an attempt to ensure viewers actually got some honesty from their broadcast media, Kumar again asked for actual evidence behind these damaging smears:

Brewer: There are absolutely plenty of them. I’m just trying to find them.

Kumar: I can’t wait to hear them. I’m literally in the edge of my seat, Julia, waiting for you to give us this vital breaking news, the anti-Semites are running the party.

Hierarchy of racism exposed by preference of victim

Then, Brewer falsely claimed that Ishmail Hussein had not been hospitalised, and openly implied that the severity of an attack determines whether the right-wing, billionaire-backed media considers its victims worthy of compassion. Funnily enough, the recently fast-tracked prosecutions of hate crimes against Jewish people don’t carry the same need for severity of attack to affect the perception of intention.

This only further proved our extensive coverage in which we have exposed this palpable hierarchy of racism at play in Western society.

Nevertheless, Brewer inadvertently just further exposed her Islamophobia, a serious and growing issue that is rife within British society:

Kumar: But why not even mention that a Muslim was attacked first? And he was hospitalized. actually, but, you know, his name’s Ishmael Hussain, he was a hospitalised, and we should name that. His life matters, too. That’s not anti-Semitic, that’s not anti-Jewish hatred, to simply mention the other person that was also stabbed.

Kumar added:

.. Julia, let me just ask you, do you think that people should… that you should have mentioned that earlier in your programme?

Brewer:  … On the day when I was on air, on the Thursday after that event had happened and I went to Golders Green, there was only talk of two victims at the time.

The authorities only spoke about two victims at the time. If you want to take that up, the Metropolitan Police, that’s an issue, isn’t it?

Kumar: But then you’ve just given the story and you’ve only mentioned two of the victims. Three were stabbed.

Again, missing the point of journalism which is to hold power to account for mis/disinformation and ensure that people understand what is happening within their society, Brewer responded:

Brewer: The Met Police and the Prime Minister keep talking about two Jewish men being stabbed.

Vote wisely in the local elections

All lives must matter in British society, and the public must reject any hierarchy of human worth. We therefore urge voters today to elect councillors who listen to their communities instead of imposing cynical agendas and manipulating the public through selective information.

We cannot allow this devaluation of human life to become normalised. Injustice fuels division, deepens anger, and drives unrest on our streets across the UK.
