On 17 June, the right-wing news account GB Politics claimed the following:

🚨NEW: Green party-led Bristol city council has banned residents from flying the England flag during the World Cup because its “making migrants feel uncomfortable”

As it turned out, this wasn’t true. But that didn’t stop a Labour MP from spreading the misinformation to his followers:

This is silly and offensive.

Been proudly wearing #England’s flag today https://t.co/leFEAgm5Im pic.twitter.com/xGKfRYkDMV

Oh, and the guy has turned off his replies too, because of course he has.

Labour England pin w*nker

GB Politics is reporting on a story from LBC, which clearly states the following:

Bristol City Council’s Green leader Tony Dyer has released a statement forbidding people from flying flags “on lampposts or railings or any public property”.

Mr Dyer told residents: “please do not attach anything to lampposts – it causes health and safety issues”.

So it’s not because of migrants; it’s because of health and safety.

Sticking with LBC, though, that outlet wasn’t faultless either. They also tried to present the issue as being ‘anti-football wokeness gone mad’:

Luke, who lives on Torrington Avenue, told LBC “it’s disgusting” that locals can’t fly flags the same way they have before “because it’s (the world cup) an event that happens once every 4 years”.

He said the street used to look “amazing” with “flags everywhere”, but now “it just looks dead. Like, it don’t even feel like the World Cup”.

“You ain’t got that World Cup feeling no more. Before, I just looked forward to the games more and everything like that because you see the passion. Now you don’t see much of that passion. Everything’s died. The thing is that people are scared now. People are worried to fly their own flag in their own country. That should not happen. It shouldn’t happen anywhere in any country”.

There are three problems with this:

  1. People are still allowed to put flags up on their cars and houses; it’s lampposts and public property which are prohibited.
  2. The phenomenon of putting flags up on every lamppost is a new thing; people weren’t doing this in the past.
  3. There are currently more flags up in this country than there have ever been; what are we even talking about?

It’s obvious why Councils are clamping down on lamppost flags now, anyway; it’s because middle-aged men keep dying trying to put them up.

Labour liar

MP Adam Jogee has turned off the replies, but that hasn’t stopped people quoting him:

This is a Labour politician knowingly retweeting a fake news story about a political opponent that was posted by a Reform UK affiliated account. https://t.co/Ntu9ooVbPS

Other commenters included Novara’s Helena:

Labour member of parliament actively tweeting deliberate disinformation about opposing political parties

Marl Karx added:

I wonder what it means that a sitting Labour MP can fall for the same right wing slopaganda meant for lead poisoned Boomers.

And Ben Smoke explained:

the story you’re tweeting is fabricated and serves to do nothing more than fan the flames of division. you should delete this.

So Jogee can’t say he wasn’t warned.

All the way to the top

Surprise, surprise; Wes Streeting is also in on this grift, as LBC reported:

But the former Health Secretary Wes Streeting has spoken out against councils asking people not to fly the St George’s cross, telling The Sun he “love(s) our flag, (is) proud of our flag, (and) proud of our country. We should be proud of it. I can’t understand why people want it taken down.”

He said: “With the World Cup coming up, isn’t this an opportunity for us to fly the flag for England and fly the flag for everyone to celebrate our country, what makes it great, to celebrate our national team.”

He could literally shag a flag on national TV, and it wouldn’t make a difference; Reform supporters wouldn’t believe he was one of them, and they would never vote for him in an election.

What a sorry sight these modern Labour politicians are.
