We know everyone is suffering under the Tories - but the Canary is a vital weapon in our fight back, and we need your support

The Canary Workers’ Co-op knows life is hard. The Tories are waging a class war against us we’re all having to fight. But like trade unions and community organising, truly independent working-class media is a vital weapon in our armoury.

The Canary doesn’t have the budget of the corporate media. In fact, our income is over 1,000 times less than the Guardian’s. What we do have is a radical agenda that disrupts power and amplifies marginalised communities. But we can only do this with our readers’ support.

So please, help us continue to spread messages of resistance and hope. Even the smallest donation would mean the world to us.

    1. The animals were transported in the aeroplane’s hold (humans are not allowed to travel in the hold, which is designed to transport luggage and cargo). So, getting these sentient beings out of Afghanistan didn’t have ANY impact on the number of humans rescued. The pity is that more animals weren’t rescued by flying them out in the holds of other aircraft

    2. As someone with an invisible illness, that has been misdiagnosed by medical professionals (even though my gebetic lifelong condition is in my medical notes), I’ve faced much of what has been written in the article, from ableist people in society, to business, to medical professionals and especially in jobs. With Tesco (Winchester) managers admitting to my face (before back tracking) that they actively discriminated against me due to my condition (Cystic Fibrosis) and wiuld not give me a different job position as a result.

I have been accused of many things, including being a faker because apparently invisible conditions don’t exist, despite approx 70% of health conditions being invisible. I’ve been accused of being a scrounger who just doesn’t want to work. Been told I should just try harder and more.

I’ve faced huge amounts of verbal abuse from the public, employers, some medical “professionals” and cops.

These shitrags like the daily (hate) mail should be shut down, that would not be censorship because that (and other) vile hate rags are commiting hate crimes, but is ignored because the Tories deal in hate crime, as do cops.

I was put on Trikafta/Kaftrio in Oct 2019 and it really helped me, I gained back my health (but still have life long physical damage due to my condition) and returned to university (no thanks or support from student finance england who refused funding as this is my 2nd degree, however, I missed over 50% of my 1st degree due to health but they did not care) studying science, I am now an Accessibility officer at the university and will be doing all I can to help those with visible and invisible conditions (mental and physical), using my exoeriences to improve things and stick 2 fingers up to the hate filled ableist (h)unts.
