UK military signs cloud contract with genocide-enabling tech giant Oracle

On 14 January, the British Ministry of Defence (MOD) signed a cloud contract with the tech giant Oracle.

Oracle serves the Israeli military, and brags that it is proud to do so, and its boss, Larry Ellison, is a big supporter of far-right US president Donald Trump.

Oracle said the contract will:

enable the MoD to rapidly move legacy technology systems to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), supporting its modernisation objectives, adoption of new AI capabilities and more effective use of critical data to strengthen the UK’s national security.

The MOD hopes:

this will improve operational efficiency for the department and enable the MoD to use technology to serve national security.

The £92mn project was paused in June 2025. Now it looks like it is going ahead again…

Genocide-positive business practices

Tedious corporate jargon aside, Oracle proudly supports Israel’s genocidal military. Israeli news outlet, Ynet, quoted Oracle’s head of sales Schmulik Hauser who told the newspaper at business conference in October 2025 that:

We knew we might lose customers because of our support for Israel, but it didn’t matter to us. Supporting Israel is in our DNA — even if it costs us clients. That’s our agenda.

The firm gave its workers in Israel double pay for several months after 7 October:

Why? Just so they’d feel okay.

And also according to Ynet:

The company also donated $1 million to Magen David Adom and launched a global employee fundraising campaign for Israeli nonprofits, pledging to match every dollar raised.

They added:

Oracle sent supplies to IDF soldiers, relocated employees who lived near the Gaza border to central hotels, and provided them with credit cards for essentials. Those afraid to remain in Israel were offered relocation to any global office, with full pay.

Alright for some…

MAGA shadow president

Tech billionaire Larry Ellison may be far less well know than Elon Musk in the UK, but he is a least as big of a whopper. Wired even reported a Trump advisor call him:

shadow president of the United States.

And his relationship to the settler-colonial state of Israel is unquestionably strong to say the least:

A staunch supporter of Israel and its military, Ellison perceived Obama to be hostile to the nation, according to the source who knows the family, as the president’s relationship with Benjamin Netanyahu deteriorated. (According to Haaretz, Ellison once offered Netanyahu a board seat at Oracle. Ellison denied the report.

None of this, however, seems to be an issue for the Ministry of Defence. And we would expect no less from an organisation which has supported Israel with everything from spy flights to military training and arms since the genocide began.
