Protesters will gather outside the US Embassy in London today (Wednesday 5 March) from 5.30pm to protest against Donald Trump’s policies towards Ukraine. It comes as a petition organised by campaign group Stop Trump hits over 100,000 signatures.

Stop Trump: protest TONIGHT

The protest is organised by the Ukraine Solidarity Campaign and supported by Stop Trump Coalition, Ukrainian community organisations, and other campaign groups.

Speakers at the demonstration will include

  • John McDonnell MP
  • Nadia Whittome MP
  • Zoe Gardner (Stop Trump Coalition)
  • Yuliya Yurchenko
  • Caroline Russell AM, Leader, City Hall Greens group
  • Luke Cooper (Another Europe is Possible)
  • Vicky Blake (UCU union)
  • Beverey Laidlaw (PCS union)
  • Simon Weller (ASLEF union)

The protest assembles outside the embassy at 33 Nine Elms Lane, SW11 7US (Vauxhall).

On Friday, Volodymyr Zelensky – the Ukrainian President – met with US president Donald Trump to sign an agreement which would give the US access to Ukraine’s reserves of rare minerals.

We all watched the Oval Office in horror, as Trump and JD Vance turned the meeting into a fiery exchange. The entire thing collapsed, and Zelensky left without a deal. Since then, Trump has made no effort to backtrack – instead, cancelling all US weapons deliveries to Ukraine.

So, the protest tonight is in response to that – but also a broader discontent with Trump and the UK’s appeasement of him.

100k people say ‘no’ to a state visit

The Stop Trump Coalition has, in tandem to the protest, organised a petition over Trump’s state visit to the UK. The “Cancel Trump’s state visit” petition has reached over 100,000 signatories.

Spokesperson Zoe Gardner said:

This shows that with Trump, flattery ultimately gets you nowhere. The promise of a state visit has completely failed to keep Trump on side.

Now it would be nothing but a parade of honour for a man who is betraying the people of Ukraine.

It is time to cancel this shameful state visit.

This is PRECISELY the kind of nonsense I stopped my subs to the Canary over.

Ukrainian citizens are being forcibly conscripted and send to certain death at the rate of 2000 dead PER DAY. The country is ruled by a CIA/MI6 plant coke-head dictator, who has imprisoned political opponent, banned the country’s minority languages, banned the country’s minority religions, closed all Opposition media, banned all Opposition political parties, is backed by far-right maniacs who sport Nazi regalia and ikons, and who is personally profiting immensely from all this carnage.

He has ordered several terrorist attacks, incl the appalling Moscow concert massacre, the Bucha massacre, the torture and mas killings of POWs, and the launching of long range missiles into Russia in an attempt to start WW3.

He has also demanded nuclear weapons on SEVERAL occasions, and would immediately USE them on civilian cities.

And back in 2021, when offered an amazingly good deal to end this conflict immediately by simply now implementing the Minsk Accords, he broke his word after the Russians had already retreated from Kiev as an agreed confidence-building measure, because BloJo had flown in with some top-notch pharma-grade cocaine for his nose.

You can say what you want about Trump, but TRUMP is trying to stop this slaughter, a pointless slaughter with only one inevitable end.

The Canary writer who was too scared to add their name to this appallingly biassed and ignorant article, if they really DID “Support Ukrainians”, would also be arguing for this factual genocide (Over 1 MILLION dead Ukrainians so far) to be brought to a diplomatic settlement ASAP.

The peoples of the 4 oblasts DO NOT WANT to be part of the Nazi regime that attacked and bombed them for 8 straight years, killing and maiming them in the 10s of thousands. They want the right to speak their languages freely, the right to have their own religions, the right to vote for whom they want. They want to be part of Russia.

It is sickening beyond belief that the Canary still espouses that these people’s human rights are worthless, that their basic human freedoms are meaningless, that the corrupt and fascist Kiev regime should be brutally conscripting its own anti-war population to keep a fight going for the benefit of Western financiers and US Neocon geopolitical aims.

I could not in any good conscience give the Canary a single penny to promote this kind of amoral propaganda. And I won’t.

Here is a SERIOUS analysts understanding of where this war originated: I suggest you watch it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqVPM0KSUpo&

As for the “Minerals deal”, the Canary should bear in mind that this notion came from ZELENSKY first, Trump had never even heard of “Rare Earths” before Voldemort Z started shouting about them. And the WH is completely aware that all the most valuable natural resources are all already safely under Russian control, and will remain that way. What your hero is trying to sell is EVERYTHING in Ukraine – the ports, airports, gas, oil, coal, energy – EVERYTHING. And he will get his 10% pay-off for selling his entire country out. I hope he enjoys that extra bit of grift before MI6 ‘liquidates’ him to replace him with Zaluzhny, to prevent Voldemort from spilling what he knows once he knows this acting gig is over for good.

The Canary will never become a serious outlet when you print such adolescent, uninformed, ignorant, wannabe-corporate-tabloid nonsense as this article – and it is hardly a stand-alone article from the Canary on this matter.

I don’t expect the Canary to do any better either, in all honesty.

Thank you for that. I too am considering stopping my contribution to the Canary. One point of information, it was April 2022 that Bojo Flew in to scupper the peace deal, not 2021 (I found that a bit confusing till I realised it was a typo)

What the Hell is going on here? In the same issue that you describe the importance of Britain’s foreign aid to countries such as Yemen, you go all out to demand the US spend even more money on keeping a war going that Ukraine is loosing. The longer the war goes on, the more territory Ukraine looses, the more men are killed and maimed, and the more infrastructure is destroyed. Ukraine will not conquer back any territory it has lost, and any more money thrown at Ukraine will end up it the accounts of shareholders in weapons companies and much will end up in the off shore accounts of the Oligarchs.
This is the same Canary that has complained about cuts to winter fuel allowances and welfare in general, yet since coming to power Keir Starmer has sent £8 billion to Ukraine, to fund a war Ukraine can’t win!
People who say they “support Ukraine” are causing Ukraine far more damage, and when peace does come, Ukraine will be at the mercy of multinationals like black rock.
One more thing, when the war against Gaza kicked off, Zelenski flew to Israel to sign bombs being dropped on Gaza.
