Merseyside Police have spoken out after a ‘digital creator’ spread “rumours and misinformation” relating to a violent incident. Since then, the Merseyside Anti-Fascist Network have drawn attention to the creator herself:

This all comes as far-right politicians and agitators have upped their attempts to capitalise off Islamophobia.

Digital Creator — “Rumours and misinformation”

Merseyside Police posted the following regarding the incident:

We would ask people to avoid spreading rumours and misinformation in relation to an incident involving a delivery driver and a large group of youths in Bootle yesterday evening, Friday 19 June.

At around 6.50pm an independent witness reported that a delivery driver was riding his bike towards the alleyway off Edward Jenner Avenue when the group of 20 youths stopped him and grabbed onto his bike. The driver tried to get away from the group and the youths then started throwing punches towards him to which the delivery driver defended himself while also attempting to get away from the youths.

Officers arrived at the scene and witnessed the youths acting aggressively and shouting at the driver, while attempting to confront him.
Enquiries have been conducted and an independent third party who witnessed the incident has confirmed that the youths were assaulting the delivery driver, and he had acted in self-defence to protect himself.

Detective Superintendent Louise Birchall said:

We have carried out extensive enquiries to understand the circumstances of what happened and can confirm from an independent witness that the delivery driver was defending himself after being confronted by 20 youths.

We are satisfied that he had acted in self-defence.

We are aware that social media posts are circulating online and would urge people not to share rumours or misinformation which creates a false narrative of what actually took place.

Merseyside Police are hardly a bastion of ‘wokeness’ either, with a report from 2022 showing that Black people were twice as likely to face arrest when compared to white people.

As the Merseyside Anti-Fascist Network posted, Elizabeth described the delivery driver as a “smelly immigrant” who is an ‘animal not human’. Elizabeth is tagged as a ‘Digital Creator’, which means she has the ability to earn money from her posts. Although it doesn’t look like she’s having much success with that, she has good reason to think she could.

After all, plenty of other British bigots are.

Profiting from hate

The British far right have gone into overdrive recently with their attempts to capitalise off Islamophobia. One key example of this is Tommy Robinson, who has been a key driver of the white riots we recently witnessed:

In Belfast, masked men targeted the homes and businesses of people of colour. After the fact, Robinson mocked the victims:

Robinson turns this into profit by begging for money from his supporters. The most blatant example of this was when he claimed to be on the run from ISIS, only to drop this shtick as soon as he got back off his jollies:

Tommy Robinson has left the country. Apparently, ISIS is targeting him, and he's asking for donations for the relocation and the ongoing security costs. pic.twitter.com/VOrES3YYAW

For another example, he recently attempted to sell advertising space at his flop of a far-right rally:

I’ve honestly seen it all now.

If you still didn’t realise Tommy Robinson is nothing but a massive grifter, here he is today — trying to sell advertising space at his next racist march.

It’s notable that Elizabeth is making her claim in the wake of Restore Britain’s ‘Rape Gang Inquiry Report’. This report included testimony from real victims, but it also:

  • Included a fabricated figure of ‘250,000 victims’.
  • Excluded victims of colour.
  • Made no mention of white perpetrators.
  • Attempted to make the case that Islam makes people more likely to commit sex crimes.

Restore’s report has provoked an angry, global response. The result of this will be that racists feel emboldened to demonise and target people of colour.

Moderation

Given the situation, Facebook should stop Elizabeth’s ability to monetise her content. It seems unlikely that they will, however, as agitated racists are a core section of Facebook’s user base.
