Breaking: Mamdani called as NYC mayoral winner less than 40 mins after polls close
Socialist Zohran Mamdani has been called as the winner of the New York City mayoral election less than forty minutes after polls closed, after he was projected to win an outright majority of the vote and with shares as high as eighty percent in working-class areas.
Mamdani saw off attacks from his own party, the candidacy as an independent of Andrew Cuomo – whom he had already thrashed in the Democratic party primary – and racist attacks from the Israel lobby and the Trump regime, with Trump even threatening to defund the city if it voted Mamdani in. The city’s first Muslim mayor, who has condemned Israel’s genocide in Gaza as an unequivocal genocide, will certainly face further attacks and sabotage.

It’s people like Mamdani who will make America great again, not the warmongers.
I would like to congratulate him for his wonderful victory and hope he will stay Safe.

An attack line that seems widespread at the moment is that the only people who voted for Mamdani were privileged, university educated folk. This is meant to warn off left behind, ‘fly-over’ areas from having the temerity to pick progressive candidates. Heard similar ‘analysis’ about voting habits when we had a left wing leader of the Labour Party. Rather simple minded when they failed to take into account the other specific factors (Brexit, Labour right wingers revolting behaviour, etc) in the UK at the time.
Seems like people of all classes will vote for an articulate, sincere and intelligent candidate with a set of progressive policies. Not only people with university degrees. Who’d a thunk it? Go figure.
