In today’s digital world, more than simply having a website is required. Your website needs to be optimised for search engines to ensure visibility and establish a clear online presence that will attract organic traffic. There are many critical SEO mistakes that can limit your chances of a high ranking on search engine results pages (SERPs), so here are the typical mistakes made and how to rectify them.

On-Page Optimisation

The most common mistake made on websites is paying attention to your on-page optimisation. This consists of optimising your meta titles, descriptions, headings and content to include any relevant keywords associated with the content. Without adding these keywords and optimising your page, it will be challenging for Google/your search engine to understand your content, its purpose, and who it should be shown to. On-page optimisation will also improve user experience by providing the reader with clear, concise, and relevant information. When users can easily find what they’re searching for, they are likely to stay longer and explore your website, eventually turning them into customers. If your meta titles and descriptions are optimised, click-through rates from SERPs are likely to increase, thus increasing organic traffic.

Investing in precise on-page optimisation is essential for boosting your website’s ranking. Not only will you be improving your website’s visibility, but you’ll be creating a more seamless experience for your users and increasing the rate of conversion and engagement.

Keyword Stuffing

While it’s crucial to optimise your pages with keywords, on the other end of this is keyword stuffing. This is when you use excessive keywords on your page instead of strategically placing them throughout. Keyword stuffing can lead to penalties from your search engine as it can be viewed as a manipulative strategy to boost your rankings. Your search engines want you to provide valuable content to their users, so lure them in with keywords only if they give them the answers they are searching for.

Instead of focusing on the quantity of keywords within your content, first focus on producing high-quality, valuable content that provides the answers and solutions that the user wants. From there, strategically incorporate the keywords amongst headings, meta descriptions, meta tags, and the bulk of the content. You will inevitably increase your website’s ranking through valuable content, as each user will have a seamless experience. If a user is receiving what they are looking for with ease, they are more likely to engage with the content and explore other pages on your website, primarily if it is written well and informative.

High-Quality Backlinks

Backlinks are a vital part of SEO and are often overlooked. High-quality backlinks will signal to search engines like Google that your website is a trusted source and can be identified as a page of authority and quality content. Creating and acquiring relevant backlinks that fit your industry or niche is essential. So again, make sure to choose quantity over quality.

Backlinks endorse your credibility, which will, in turn, impact your search engine rankings. Google often consider backlinks as votes of confidence, so the more quality backlinks your website receives, the more likely it’ll be viewed as a page of authority.

Find out how to naturally share your expertise by collaborating with influencers, blogs, or other companies relevant to your industry. It’s also valuable for regularly evaluating your backlinks to remove any low-quality or spam-like versions. This will ensure your website is constantly at a status of authority and will always place you in a position of trust, increasing your search engine ranking.

Implementing these best practices will improve your website’s visibility and ranking on SERPs. It is always an ongoing process and requires constant attention and effort. Suppose you’re not sure where, to begin with your SEO strategy; in that case, you can partner with The Good Marketer, an SEO Agency in London, to help you create and optimise your website for a higher search engine ranking, increased organic traffic, and potential conversions.
