Home Office launches US-Style TikTok page, flaunting deportations

The Home Office has launched a TikTok account named ‘Secure Borders UK,’ in a move imitating US-style anti-immigration propaganda.

Home Office enters Tik-Tok arena

The first two videos on the account show immigration raids and deportations — accompanied by music an 11-year-old would stick on a PowerPoint presentation to feel important.

The Home Office launched the account on Tuesday, 13 January, with the description:

Restoring order and control to our borders.

Official UK Home Office account.

In their words, the profile is intended to:

Tackle misinformation and narratives peddled by people smugglers

However, the videos put out by the Home office appear eerily similar to those posted by Donald Trump, the White House, and other American political accounts over the past year.

It appears that Keir Starmer’s government is attempting to appease the full far-right spectrum with the same TikTok account.

The head of asylum advocacy at Freedom From Torture, Sile Reynolds, told the Guardian:

This government is clearly hooked on the cheap political points it can score by turning the brutality of enforcement raids into clickbait online entertainment.

She added that it’s the same type of political communication which fuels anxiety and fear. Moreover, this is precisely the kind of rhetoric that led to previous UK riots and protests at asylum seeker hotels.

Pandering to the far-right

This is not the first time that the Labour government has pandered to far-right fascists.

Back in November, Labour published its proposed reforms to asylum seeker policy. The Home Office named the policy document “Restoring order and control”. However, campaign groups have widely criticised the document due to its far-right nature.

It removed asylum seekers’ rights to family reunion and removed the duty to support asylum seekers. It also gave authorities the right to remove jewellery and valuables from asylum seekers.

One Labour Peer, Baron Alf Dubs, spoke out against the deeply racist asylum seeker policy changes. He slammed the amendments as “a shabby thing” and also accused Shabana Mahmood of seeking “to use children as a weapon”.

It has been clear from the beginning that Labour does not give a shit about asylum seekers or migrants — along with practically every other minority group that exists. However, creating a Trump-style TikTok account, after previously banning the app on Whitehall accounts due to security concerns, reveals how far the Prime Minister is willing to go to appeal to Reform Voters.
