Social media broke Israel’s propaganda machine — The cost of Crying Wolf

The world has finally started to turn on Israel

Despite pouring millions into anti-Palestinian propaganda, the world is turning against Israel. The colonial state’s demise has been accelerated by its perceived sense of “invincibility” and arrogance in broadcasting its genocidal intent.

Now, even analysts from the ethno-state believe the reputational damage is done. No amount of propaganda can save them.

Crying wolf carries consequences

Since 7 October, Israel has aggressively amplified its victimisation narrative, asking for condemnation of Hamas and spreading misinformation across news channels.

Therein lies the rub… the Israelis, so convinced by their own narrative which casts them (the aggressors) as the victims, had the gall to publicly broadcast their war crimes in Gaza. The very propaganda meant to justify their actions has exposed their barbarism to the world.

Israel believed it could act without consequences.

Ultimately, its confidence backfired, after media appearances brought unprecedented global attention to Gaza. Israel practically live streamed its massacres, then acted surprised when the world reacted with disgust. Viral images and recordings exposing occupation soldiers gleefully ransacking homes and murdering civilians can no longer be ignored by audiences worldwide — overtaking even traditional forms of journalism to deliver facts on the ground.

When your allies stop defending you

Even within Israel’s staunchest ally, the United States, public support is eroding. In 2026, Pew Research Centre reported that 67 percent of adults across 37 countries worldwide hold an “unfavourable” view of Israel.

The timing is significant after more than two years of genocide in Gaza.

This shift has been seen across the US, where an estimated 60% of American adults hold unfavourable views of Israel. This marks a dramatic change from 2022, when public opinion on Israel’s conduct was more evenly split.

The decline is particularly pronounced among Democratic voters, with around 80% now holding a negative view of Israel, rising to 84% among those under 50.

This isn’t limited to America. Statistics also show that 69% of the British public view Israel negatively, as do 73% of Germans. Other statistics underline an important generational shift with younger people challenging Israeli apartheid.

Despite being among Israel’s closest allies, these governments aren’t backed by their populations who are calling out Israel’s actions in Gaza — and the scale of death and destruction.

But why now? Why has the general public decided to collectively push back against the ethno-state’s oppression of Palestinians on a scale we’ve not seen before?

Israel, the world is watching

The international fight for Palestinians is not new. What has changed is that Israel’s narrative can no longer compete with what the world is witnessing in real time.

In the age of infinite social media scrolling, Israel’s propaganda must compete with reality. In other words, any person with a device can watch the Genocide being livestreamed before their very own eyes. People are no longer reliant on legacy media or linear TV consumption. They are witnessing events unfold inside Gaza in real time.

The circulation of footage is beyond the control of Israel and their allied media corp. And when you can access information without Israel’s censorship the truth becomes far more blatant. Within this interconnected world, Palestinians have been empowered to document, share, and disseminate their lived experience of genocide.

Global audiences are seeing the humanity of a people vilified by Israel. For what? For surviving 78 years of occupation?

No amount of messaging from Israel can compete with the images of mutilated bodies and families starving under the humanitarian blockade. Israel can spend all the money it wants but the tide has already shifted.

And in no world will audiences accept genocidal rhetoric as a Cassus Belli. Who remembers when former Israeli defence minister Yoav Gallant said:

We are fighting human animals and are acting accordingly.

Israel’s veneer crumbles

The internet has turned Israel’s narrative on its head. For decades, Israel’s propaganda, unchallenged by its allies, has relied on the same talking points. But the veneer is crumbling…

People are now seeing evidence that directly challenges Israel’s propaganda. The old arguments aren’t holding up like they did. Even in so-called Israel-friendly countries, people are now questioning the story they’ve been sold.

Ultimately despite the state continued funding by many politicians and governments, every human rights organization, the UN, the South African government and everybody who has access to the internet knows exactly what Israel is.

The ultimate irony is that Israel’s own arrogance has dealt the heaviest blow to its reputation — reaching the point of no return.

When the key to opposing systemic colonialism is united resistance, the path forward is clear: we must work together until Palestine is free.

Israel’s end is coming — is this the decade of reckoning we’ve been awaiting?
