Hot weather boosts requests for air conditioning installations

Home air conditioning installation requests have been monumentally increasing across Europe as a result of the hot weather, MyBuilder data has revealed.

Online home services marketplace, MyBuilder.com, has released statistics showing that requests for air conditioning installations on their website are increasing by more than 300% each year.

Requests have reached a record high this month due to the unprecedented hot weather across the UK and Europe.

  • Installation requests are increasing 7.4 times per year in Germany. MyBuilder says one in four home improvement jobs in Germany on 28 June were for air conditioning installations.
  • Installments have increased by four-times the amount in the Netherlands via MyBuilder.

The figures suggest that built-in air conditioning is becoming a new household necessity as people struggle to deal with the warmer temperatures.

Andy Simms, a home expert with MyBuilder, said:

Consistent spells of high heat make our homes heat traps, and it’s extremely uncomfortable – and sometimes even dangerous – to have no relief from it. It’s not surprising that our numbers are showing a huge spike in demand for air conditioning systems and other home cooling equipment.

Hot weather and UK homes – bad combination

The UK weather has reached record highs. Heatwaves have caused big disturbances in daily life, such as schools and workplaces over safety fears, and millions of people struggling to sleep.

British homes and buildings have become a particular issue. These premises were originally built to withstand cooler climates and designed to keep the heat in. This means that in hotter temperatures, the heat builds up and remains trapped within the premises.

During such heat and humidity, it makes homes even more unsuitable for comfortable, and even safe, daily living without interventions.

Simms continued:

The recent spate of extremely hot weather has underlined to many people that the majority of British homes and buildings are just not well-designed or equipped for high temperature events.

The increase of air conditioning installments seems to be being used by the British population to manage and cope with these unfamiliarly hot temperatures.

Other methods of internal cooling, such as ceiling fans and shutter installations, are also having a drastic spike in requests.

With more heatwaves predicted throughout the rest of the summer, it’s unlikely these requests will slow down anytime soon.
