Board of Peace is just the Trump administration — expert

The “Board of Peace” is a fiction, according to the Quincy Institute’s Khaled Elgindi. His comments come following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement that Israel intends to control 70% of the Gaza Strip.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Elgindi said that the multilateral body of nations created to oversee Trump’s peace plan has no real authority.

The Board of Peace is a fiction. It is a sort of multilateral; it has the appearance of multilateralism, but is really just the Trump administration that is running the show behind the scenes

According to Elgindi, even the highly one-sided agreement that Trump negotiated only permits Israel to occupy up to the so-called “yellow line,” which covers just over half of the Gaza Strip.

He pointed out that Israel has already publicly claimed control of 60 percent of Gaza, meaning it has already surpassed the agreed-upon limits. Elgindi further argued that Netanyahu’s stated goal of 70 percent is only a starting point, with the Israeli leader suggesting that the plan would begin there and expand even further.

Board of Peace — sham workings

Elgindi said that the Board of Peace’s lead envoy for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, only takes orders from the US President and the US Secretary of State and not the nineteen members of the Board of Peace.

He said that hundreds of Palestinians had been killed by Israel since the ceasefire deal was signed and that Israel has continued to restrict aid, particularly since the Iran war began in February, with a massive reduction in humanitarian assistance entering Gaza.

Even the BBC has reported that Israeli forces have been increasing the area under their control. Israeli forces now control 64% of the Gaza Strip, including both the 53% of the territory occupied behind the Yellow Line and areas needing coordination, according to the daily newspaper, Israel Hayom.

Mondoweiss further reported that Trump’s Board of Peace was in a financial crisis as by April, only three of 10 pledging states — the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Morocco — had transferred any funds. The total was also under $1 billion, compared to $17 billion pledged.

Facing this shortfall, the Trump administration is now considering asking Israel to redirect a portion of approximately $5 billion in clearance revenues that Israel has been withholding from the Palestinian Authority. Mondoweiss calls its — “Paying for the occupation twice over.”

The US and Israel are sham countries — that they are executing a sham plan surprises no one.
