Your Party (re-)opens membership with Corbyn admission – and Sultana now on board

THIS ARTICLE WAS UPDATED AT 7:30PM ON 24 SEPTEMBER TO REFLECT AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM ZARAH SULTANA

Your Party, the new left-wing party still in formation, has (re-)opened its “official” membership scheme today, with a video from co-founder and former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, in which he admits the leadership has ‘not covered ourselves in glory’:

Your Party at it again

At the time of writing originally – 1:30pm on 24 September, there has been no matching announcement from Corbyn’s co-founder Zarah Sultana – nor reassurance or clarity for people who paid for membership after her announcement, as to whether their application and payment apply to this one.

However, by 7pm the same day Sultana had clarified she was involved – and that existing memberships would be transferred across:

I’m a member of Your Party – and if you haven’t joined yet, you should too.

I’ll remain a fierce advocate for the grassroots – and will continue to fight hard for maximum member democracy.

For those who joined the previous system: data and membership will be migrated across in…

— Zarah Sultana MP (@zarahsultana) September 24, 2025

Still, the one-sided original announcement from Corbyn was the opposite of what was needed – ideally a joint video, or at the very least simultaneous separate announcements – to begin to redress the wariness and disappointment of a movement that is pinning its hopes of defeating fascism, let alone rebuilding a decent society, on Your Party’s success.

The new announcement is welcome, but given the open recriminations, pronouncements of hacking and fake emails and even threats of legal action in the last week or so, it still doesn’t show that those responsible for last week’s fiasco have really taken on board the lessons they need to – as comments underneath Corbyn’s YouTube and X videos show, like these examples:

So, the show is on the road but needs to do better – much better – and fast.

Just when the country desperately needs a real political alternative, stupid political game-playing has infected the new party before it even exists! Hugely disappointing that the rift hasn’t yet been healed.

Thus is absurd. Have we two “Your Party” now ?Has Sultana been removed and who by ? Has she resigned ? If not why not a joint statement to encourage confidence. ? Is the money sent to her ” party” being transfered or refunded ? What sort of confidence and enthusiasm can we have for a party founded by backroom infighting cabals who wont tell us what is going on and simply says “Trust me, I am Corbyn” , It would be a TV sitcom if not so tragic for the left and people of thiis country. 800,000 now sitting in despair at the fuck up by our self appointed leaders. I wouldnt vote for any of them to organise a fucking childrens picnic let alone our future. I want a rank and file take over and repace the whole lot of them

They say the final decisions will be made by conference and then membership. So why this argument over drafts. We need democratic accountability and involvement now. What a fuck up

I paid for membership upfront last week and received an email confirmation, but no receipt (as promised). I’ve still had no reply from Zarah Sultana’s Westminster office about what our status is as members. I presume she’s as bemused as we are. This should be the first question that needs addressing. Are we members, or do we need a refund?

The payments are going to YOUR PARTY UK LTD; this is listed at Companies House, with six persons listed as having “significant control”, including all the Independent Group, and specifically including Zarah Sultana. The thing to watch for is whether she resigns, presumably to set up her own party or movement.
She has not been removed, nor has she resigned.
The ‘Sultana memberships’ (!) appear to have gone to the same payee, although the portal link is now ‘dead’ so I can’t check that. The payments therefore are held in trust for the Your Party UK Ltd. Clarification on this would be welcome, but alarm seems a little premature.
As for confidence, that’s clearly a individual matter but hyperbole such as “800,000 people sitting in despair” is – unhelpful and (deliberately?) destructive. Get a grip of yourself.
“Self appointed leaders”? They are MPs! The leadership structures and occupancy is a matter for debate at the November Founding Conference in Liverpool. Obviously.
“Rank and File” takeover: and who decides who is rank and file, and who is their leader to be , and how are they to be selected, and how the fuck does that differ from what is being proposed?

I was under the impression that last week’s membership payments were held in trust by MOU Operations Ltd which is run by Jamie Driscoll, Andrew Feinstein and Dr Bethan Winter.

They are. Same place (but separate account ) as the donations given previously.

Oh get a grip. Any money paid is secure and if for some reason it can’t be used for membership under the original scheme will obviously be used for membership under the new system or will be returned.
A minor glitch in communication between members of the group rather busy trying to organise the massive undertaking of setting up a fully democratic system and a conference (when established parties take an entire year on just the conference) is just that, a minor glitch, but obviously the non dom billionaire run media wish to portray it as a major rift (as they are terrified of the party succeeding), but I’m rather surprised at the Canary joining in.

@Branka – it’s not so much Corbyn as the shadowy bunch advising him and seemingly trying to shape Your Party even before it exists.
