“No one in Gaza slept” last night after storm surge flooding

The people of Gaza faced another long and freezing night last night, Sunday 28 December, after a storm surge added seawater to heavy rains.

Local man Tamer Nahed described the horrific reality facing 1.8 million Palestinians who have survived Israel’s genocide so far:

This is, quite literally, the worst night we’ve lived through maybe in our entire lives. No one in Gaza slept tonight. Not a single family was spared. Water flooded every home and tent. People were forced to sleep standing, or stayed awake, surrounded by crumbling walls.

Seawater crept into the tents of displaced families as they slept, sweeping them away. Walls of damaged houses collapsed on those inside. The only sounds were screaming, cold, and rushing water.

I’m trying to describe what we’re going through, but words are not enough. Please pray for us…Helplessness is overwhelming, and death feels closer than ever…

We documented everything shared photos and videos, exposed the catastrophe we’re living but nothing has changed. It seems the world has gotten used to watching us die, and no longer cares that children here are freezing to death.

The tents of the displaced have collapsed, rain has flooded everything. The cold is devouring children’s bodies. Families have no blankets, no clothes the war has taken it all.

After midnight, our neighbors’ tents were blown away. They screamed for help. No electricity, no light, nothing. It feels like the end of the world. Where are those who preach humanity and human rights on TV screens? Where are they from the cries of our children and the tears of our mothers?

Gaza’s people: ruthlessly displaced, now drowning

Palestinian doctor Mustafa Barghouti posted footage depicting the terrifying conditions people already starving and weak faced:

The appalling weather is wreaking havoc among people deliberately starved and denied shelter and medical care by the occupation:

This latest cruelty comes after weeks of constant bombing, during a ‘ceasefire’, and Israel’s continuing illegal blockade of food, medicines, and shelter materials.

This is deliberate, racist murder by the colonial forces. Former MP Claudia Webbe wrote just before Christmas that Israel is using “winter as a weapon”. Israeli human rights group B’tselem, and Amnesty International, have said that Israel’s genocide has not stopped, despite the supposed ceasefire.

All of them are right, yet the Starmer regime is doing nothing.
