Even without proof, Republicans threaten to deport Rep. Ilhan Omar

In the latest of a long line of utter fabrications regarding democratic representative Ilhan Omar—the first Somali-American elected to congress—Trump and his cronies are now claiming that she committed immigration fraud by marrying her own brother.

Of course, they’re taking great delight in announcing plans to deport Omar, who just so happens to be a vocal Trump critic.

On 27 March, far-right talking head Benny Johnson interviewed vice president JD Vance on his eponymous Benny Show. He raised the subject of Trump’s latest unfounded conspiracy theory regarding Omar’s immigration status. Now, however, Vance is claiming that they have proof. Honest.

They’re just not sure what it is yet, is all.

We think she actually definitely did it

On the show, Johnson stated that:

The president and the White House have been out saying that she married her brother, that there is immigration fraud going on here. These are deportable, de-naturalisation offences, can you give us an update on that?

Vance sidestepped the deplorable suggestion that Omar married her brother. Apparently, some lies are too much even for the Republican stooge. Instead, he replied:

Yeah, so we actually think that Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America.

And I talked to Stephen Miller [deputy chief of staff for policy] about this, actually, recently, and we’re trying to look at what the remedies are.

That’s the thing that we’re trying to figure out is what are the legal remedies now that we know that she’s committed immigration fraud – how do you go after her, how do you investigate her, how do you actually do the thing, how do you build a case necessary to get some justice for the American people?

Now, if we were trying to sound like we weren’t lying, we wouldn’t go with the phrasing ‘we actually think she definitely did it’. ‘Oh, but also, we’re still investigating’ — very convincing, that.

It’s also noteworthy that Trump started bleating about Omar’s immigration status back in December. Miraculously, the Republicans have now found their evidence proving that Trump was right, just three months later. Funny how that happens, isn’t it?

Not certain, but airing it anyway

Vance didn’t stop there. No, he also took a swipe at Somali-Americans into the bargain:

There’s a related issue Benny, which is, she has been at the center of a lot of the worst fraudsters in the Somali community. So do I know that Ilhan Omar was aware that the Quality Learning Center [in Minneapolis] was defrauding the American people?

I’m not certain of it, but we at least need to investigate it because if people can commit wrongdoing without even the fear that they’re going to be found out, that’s a fundamental problem.

God, imagine if a US politician could commit some of the most heinous crimes imaginable and get off scot-free? The very idea of it doesn’t bear thinking about.

The Somali-American-run Quality Learning Center was the victim of unproven accusations of fraud by far-right Youtuber Nick Shirley. He alleged that the center received public daycare funds, but provided no actual care. However, his accusations were flatly contradicted by the state’s own regulators.

Nevertheless, Trump chose to freeze all daycare payments to the state of Minnesota in retaliation. The Quality Learning Center is among the establishments forced to close its doors in the aftermath.

‘A ridiculous lie’

In response to the Republicans’ latest round of baseless smears, Omar’s chief of staff called the accusations “a ridiculous lie. He stated that:

This is rich coming from someone who literally said they were willing to ‘create stories’ to redirect the media.

This is a ridiculous lie and desperate attempt to distract from the pedophile protection party’s unpopular war of choice, increasing gas prices, and rapidly dropping polling numbers.

Making up shit about a Brown Democrat’s immigration status is hardly a new tactic for Trump. We saw him pull a similar stunt regarding Obama’s birth record all the way back in 2011.

However, Trump is now clearly getting desperate. He’s waging a quagmire war against Iran, sending fuel prices soaring, whilst facing the fact that his alleged pedophilia is coming to light. And, as Omar’s staff pointed out, the American public is sick of him.

In a man as powerful as Trump, backed by like-minded sycophants, that desperation is dangerous. There is nothing they won’t say, nothing they won’t do, no level they won’t stoop to attack their increasing number of enemies—and to cling onto power for just a little longer.
