English football super-fan flogs home to fund dream World Cup trip

Andy Milne, a die-hard England football fan, has decided to sell his home in northern England for £350,000, all to help fund his trip to the World Cup.

The trip will take him to the US, Mexico, and Canada—an extreme measure by most people’s standards.

Milne, 62, is a retired teacher currently living in Thailand and has owned the house for 27 years.

He has become a well-known figure among England fans. He is often seen carrying a replica World Cup trophy at sporting events.

His itinerary will include all of England’s matches. Firstly, he’ll be attending the match against Croatia in Dallas on 17 June, followed by the match against Ghana in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on 23 June. And the tour will conclude with the final group stage match against Panama in New Jersey on 27 June.

Can’t stop me now

According to the Associated Press, for Milne, this will be the tenth time he has attended a World Cup, including the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

In an interview with the Mirror, Milne said that he has:

put the house up for sale because I want to sell it so I can go to the World Cup. We’ve had this second home for 27 years, and I felt now was the right time to make the most of it. I definitely want to attend the whole tournament, and I’ll be staying there for seven weeks, so the trip will cost a lot of money.

The decision reflects a long-standing passion for football and a strong desire to follow his national team on the pitch. This is an experience described by some as a model of dedication and loyalty from the most devoted football fans.
