Starmer made ex-aide a lord despite known paedo link

In a classic Starmer move, the prime minister has elevated a former aide linked to a convicted paedophile to the House of Lords.

We say ‘classic’ because it has all the hallmarks of Starmer’s most famous moves:

  • The whiff of corruption.
  • The stench of incompetence.
  • The reek of hypocrisy.

EXCLUSIVE: Keir Starmer gave peerage to ex-aide despite knowing he campaigned for man charged with child sex offences inc accessing images of girls as young as 10

No10 investigated + interviewed Matthew Doyle once Morgan McSweeney was warned about him

Paedocracy

The ex-aide in question is Matthew Doyle, and the paedophile he’s linked to is Sean Morton. Morton was a Labour councillor who was charged with possessing and distributing illegal images, including explicit material of naked girls and the sexual abuse of a dog. Labour expelled him, and while that seems like a plus for Starmer, be aware that this happened in 2016. If Morton got caught today, perhaps he would have been the one elevated to the lords.

The issue for Doyle is that he supported Morton’s subsequent run as an independent:

But Doyle enthusiastically backed him, knocking on doors, wearing shirt emblazoned with slogan "Re-elect Sean Morton" and joining Morton at election count

They continued to socialise after Morton lost. We don't know when contact stopped

People were "shocked" by the friendship

— Gabriel Pogrund (@Gabriel_Pogrund) December 27, 2025

Gabriel Pogrund of the Times summarised the story on Twitter/X, noting that Starmer and his chief of staff were “warned about” Doyle, which prompted a “secret inquiry”. This inquiry concluded that Doyle’s association was fine, actually:

Labour was already aware of allegations about relationship between Morton and Pam Duncan Glancy, its Scottish education spokesman

Duncan Glancy has since resigned front frontbench over the friendship and will step down as an MSP over "serious error of judgement"

No10 said: "Questions regarding Matthew Doyle's past acquaintance with Sean Morton were thoroughly investigated, including through several interviews with Matthew Doyle, prior to his appointment."

PM was personally aware of the matter

— Gabriel Pogrund (@Gabriel_Pogrund) December 27, 2025

Doyle excused his actions as follows:

Sean Morton was maintaining his innocence at this time. I regret supporting him. Sean Morton was someone I knew for a period through other shared acquaintances. I have not seen him for years.

Doyle was the former head of comms, by the way. In other words, he should have a very good idea of what will and will not communicate.

Arguably, the fact that Starmer hired this guy is just as big an embarrassment as elevating him to the lords.

Hypocrisy

The incompetence and potential corruption are clear, but what about the hypocrisy?

Specifically, the issue is this:

Keir Starmer is now cramming the House of Lords with Labour peers after previously promising to Abolish the House of Lords in his first term

You simply can't believe anything this man says pic.twitter.com/ctj3yRYaoz

Literally, you can’t trust a word this guy says.

Unless, of course, those words are something like: ‘I don’t care how many paedophiles you’re friends with; I’m going to give you an undemocratic peerage – for life!‘
