Ben-Gvir receives birthday cake with noose on

The cake celebrates Israel’s new law, which allows the Israeli prison service to execute Palestinian prisoners without trial.

Ben-Gvir — Illegal settler-terrorist

Ben-Gvir is an illegal settler in Kiryat Araba, one of the most radical settlements in the occupied West Bank. Previously, he stated that his rights are more important than those of Palestinians.

He is the leader of Otzma Yehudit, or Jewish Power, a far-right, anti-arab party.

He has racked up at least eight criminal convictions, including supporting a terrorist organisation and inciting racism. His criminal record is so long that when he appeared before a judge, a former official said:

we had to change the ink on the printer

In 2022, he pulled a gun on Palestinian parking attendants in Tel Aviv, and was part of a group of settlers who slashed Palestinians’ car tyres and tried to storm one family’s home. When Palestinians responded by throwing stones, he pulled out a gun, despite the police presence at the scene.

Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert described Ben-Gvir as an “imminent danger to Israel” compared to a nuclear-armed Iran.

Ben-Gvir was even banned from the IOF because of his ‘extremist past’. Imagine being too extreme to join a bunch of literal terrorists.

It’s also funny how the man accusing Hamas of being terrorists has a terrorism conviction himself, isn’t it?

Openly genocidal

More recently, Ben-Gvir was behind the new Knesset bill, which legalises the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners.

Ben-Gvir is one of the most openly anti-arab politicians in Israel, despite having Iraqi-Kurdish heritage.

Ben-Gvir also met his wife when she was only 15, and he was 26. I think there’s a word for that.

Despite all of this, Western governments (ahem, Keir Starmer) want us to believe that pro-Palestine protesters are the threat.

Rotten society

It’s not just the Israeli government that is rotten to its core. In total, 82% of Jewish israelis support forcibly expelling Palestinians from Gaza. Additionally, 56% support expelling Palestinians living in the Occupied Territories.

At the same time, nearly half of Jewish Israelis (47%) agreed that the IOF should kill all of the inhabitants in a city when invading it. The question states “as the Israelites did in Jericho under Joshua’s command” — in reference to a bible story.

Essentially, Israeli’s are using a probably made-up storybook as justification for murdering thousands of innocent people.

But what should we expect when the settler-colonial state was literally built on the graves of Palestinians?

This guy is who the entirety of the Western corporate media are protecting when they don’t report honestly on Israel’s crimes. Or when they erase the experiences of muslims in the name of combating ‘antisemitism’.

This guy, and the Israeli government more widely, openly celebrate the hanging of Palestinians while its army occupies, bombs and destroys Gaza and Lebanon.

Ben-Gvir is the problem. Jewish supremacy is the problem. The illegal ethnostate of Israel is the problem.

Zionism is racism, and the longer that the West collectively covers for Israel, the longer this shit show is going to continue.

Zionism is a word with multiple meanings, and different people — including Jewish and Palestinian people — understand it in very different ways. When it’s described simply as “racism,” it can sound like a statement about Jewish identity or Jewish safety, even if that isn’t the intention.

We must criticise the Israeli government, the occupation, and the discriminatory systems Palestinians live under. But it’s also important to use language that doesn’t unintentionally suggest that Jewish people, as a whole, don’t deserve safety or self‑determination.

We can talk honestly about state violence and racism without collapsing whole communities into a single definition of a very contested word.
