Restore are obviously full of white supremacists

On 17 June, the Telegraph suddenly noticed that Restore Britain has the backing of the openly-supremacist British far right. For those of you who’ve followed Rupert Lowe and his Restore Party, this isn’t really news. But it is notable that Britain’s right-wing media has suddenly rallied around Reform UK, which has been losing voters to Restore in the Makerfield by-election.

The other thing of note is that Restore refused to say if the white supremacists flagged by the Telegraph remain in the party:

Restore aren’t hiding

Restore activists aren’t shy about their beliefs. In the following video from Makerfield, one of them chants “make this country white”:

When we say it’s not ‘news’ that Restore is full of white supremacists, that doesn’t mean it’s not ‘newsworthy’. And the individuals flagged by the Telegraph certainly need looking at. Chief among them is Steve Laws, with the Telegraph reporting:

Steve Laws, who campaigns for “total remigration” of all non-white people, posted on social media that he had donated to Restore, while Jared Taylor, an American banned from the UK because of his extreme racist views, has become a paid-up member.

Other neo-fascists who have paid to join Restore include Sam Melia, who was jailed in 2024 for stirring up racial hatred, Sam Wilkes, a Nazi apologist, and Simon Birkett, who is buying up land for the benefit of “the British people”.

Mr Laws, who has said he has “signed up and donated” to Restore Britain, describes himself as the founder of Remigration Now, which calls for the expulsion of every non-white and Jewish person from Britain.

This is what Laws said about home secretary Shabana Mahmood in response to her hardline immigration reforms:

The grimness of this highlights why capitulating to Reform on immigration has been such a losing strategy for Labour. Trying to out-Reform Reform doesn’t win back voters; it just tells them that Farage and his ilk were right all along.

The Telegraph also:

asked Restore Britain whether any of the above-named men had been expelled from the party, Mr Lowe responded by saying: “The Telegraph has failed to cover the findings of our rape gang inquiry report, which details the mass rape of young vulnerable English girls by gangs of Pakistani Muslims, yet finds the time to publish such pointless smear pieces. Absolutely pathetic.”

The ‘report‘ in question contains interviews with real victims of sexual assault; it also contains made-up figures. And as Grace reported for the Canary, the report:

ignored the basic methodological foundations necessary for such a study. Instead, it exploited victims’ narratives and deployed Islamophobic conjecture to arrive at a foregone conclusion, which Lowe posted to social media:

Our inquiry report proves that without doubt there is an undeniable link between religion and the rape gangs.

Islam.

As a country, we need to find the courage to finally say so.

Grace added:

Though Lowe used the official language of an ‘inquiry’, his endeavour was completely crowdfunded. It was subject to no oversight – parliamentary or otherwise – and completely lacks any of the methodological rigor expected of an inquiry. In spite of the report now being published, Lowe is still collecting donations.

On top of this, the report’s authors purposefully excluded victims of colour and white perpetrators in order to present a misleading narrative about the Pakistani community.

In other words, it’s no surprise that Restore is attracting white supremacists.
