A new Survation poll commissioned by the Labour Muslim Network has revealed a startling collapse in support amongst traditional Labour Party voters in the UK Muslim community nationwide.

Labour Party: Muslim people are abandoning it

The exclusive new poll has found that support for the Labour Party had halved, dropping by 43% amongst British Muslim voters since the 2019 general election. The drop in support comes after weeks of criticism of Labour’s positioning over Israel‘s ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer was also found to have a net favourability of -11% amongst British Muslims. The British Muslim community have traditionally been amongst the most loyal Labour voters with 86% supporting the party in 2019.

A collapse

The headline findings of the opinion poll are:

  • The Labour Party’s support amongst British Muslim voters has halved, falling from an 86% vote share in the 2019 general election to a projected 43% (-43) in 2024.
  • Identification with the Labour Party amongst British Muslims has fallen by a startling 23% points, from 72% in 2021 to 49% (-23) in 2024.
  • 38% of British Muslims polled said their view of the Labour Party had become more unfavourable over the past 12 months.
  • 62% of British Muslims polled said their view of the Conservative Party had become more unfavourable over the past 12 months.
  • 85% of British Muslims polled claimed that the position of political parties on Israel-Palestine will be important in how they choose to vote at the upcoming general election.
  • Sir Keir Starmer’s net personal approval rating amongst British Muslims is -11%.
  • Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s net personal approval rating amongst British Muslims is -58%.

The poll was conducted by Survation via telephone interview. A combination of landline and mobile data were called. Field work was conducted between 18th January and 3rd February 2024.

Labour ‘risks losing support for a generation’

The Labour Muslim Network said:

The Muslim community has been amongst the most loyal Labour supporters anywhere in the United Kingdom. The findings of this new opinion poll shows a startling collapse of this electoral and communal relationship.

This is a crisis point for the future of the relationship between the British Muslim community and the Labour Party.

These findings come in the context of over 100 days of Israel’s continuous assault on Gaza. Over 25,000 Palestinians have been killed, more than 10,000 of whom are children, and the Labour Party’s response has been unacceptable and deeply offensive to Muslims across Britain.

Muslim voters have been watching and are now sending a clear message – they will not support any political party that does not fervently oppose the crimes committed against the people of Gaza.

The Labour leadership must change paths now or risk losing the support of the Muslim community for a generation.

This highlights a problem in England which has been growing for years. As the Tories crumble into sleaze and corruption and as Labour shifts inexorably rightwards, with decreasing concern for groups who traditionally voted Labour, with Lib Dems, still tainted by their role in the Cameron Government and being now a fringe party, which party can ‘reasonable’ people vote for? Although the Greens have a significant number of Councillors they have only one MP and she is retiring. The iniquitous first past the post system favours only Tory and Labour and excludes the rest.

The ‘main’ parties have never stood for election in Northern Ireland, but its people, now that Stormont has resumed have a new path to tread and the possibility of reunification.

In Scotland, there is the option of the SNP, Greens, Alba, Scottish Socialist Party.

In Wales there is Plaid Cymru and Welsh Labour retains viability by emphasising its Welshness and its people centred policies.

Who can people in England vote for if they want change.?

Interesting views put in this article to Labour voters
Be them -Black or White voter of Labour party.
    **
I will just put my point of view below on this article No matter what colour your skin is or what your religion is the fact is if Tory stay in power next G.E. we all in the U.K. will suffer.
    **
But mainly all the legal overstayers (that held green cards) the immigrant legal or illegal boat people that he Tory will send to Rwanda
So, all Migrant falling out with Labour leader for whatever reason you have you have a choirs of Labour in power or Tory next G.E.
    **
    My point are the following
Vote Tory you will be removed from U.K. migrant people to control immigration the Tory made a mess off.
    **
Vote Labour and see what deals you can make with the Labour leader
On blocking the Rwanda deal put in place by Sunak Govt.
    **
Fact voter is both Labour & Tory have lost the plot with us British people and the migrants that are legally allowed to stay here I do feel sorry for the Immigrants that are going to be punished if Tory or Labour get power next G.E.
Tory will try to clean up their immigration mess fast so all will be sent back to their own country or Rwanda under Tory rule Labour have opposed the Rwanda deal from day one but will have to make hard decisions on who can & who cannot stay in the U.K. the legal & illegal immigration to the U.K. cannot carry on getting out of hand here Sunak-Starmer Tory -Labour elected M.P. will have hard choices to make in Govt after next G.E.
So, to all Migrant voter the path you take or party you vote for next G.E. will still have to address the mass immigration problem the U.K. has now (so I politely say vote wisely next G.E. all Migrant voters in U.K.)

t is time for Jeremy Corbyn to start a new Party. If it splits the Labour vote, that would not be a bad thing, as a future Labour Government would have to strike a deal with the SNP or another Party. A Keir Starmer Labour Party in Westminster with an overall majority would be just as bad as the Tories.
