Streeting or Starmer, neither will save the NHS

Just as we were all getting ready for bed last night, some news broke on social media. As tweeted by many corporate media journalists, including Alex Wickham of Bloomberg, Wes Streeting is allegedly planning to oust Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Wickham tweeted that there were “a series of furious briefings to media outlets” last night from Number 10, which he says suggest Starmer is worried about a leadership challenge from Streeting.

However, according to sources, these briefings are completely unfounded. A government source told Wickham:

Number Ten has gone into full bunker mode, turning on their most loyal cabinet members for absolutely no reason. Unfortunately, there is a pattern of Keir’s team briefing against his own people- they did it to Angela, Lisa, Lucy, now it’s Wes’s turn. A circular firing squad won’t help the government out of the hole we’re in.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Streeting denied the claims, whilst also bragging about all the hard work Streeting’s been doing:

These claims are categorically untrue. Wes’s focus has entirely been on cutting waiting lists for the first time in 15 years, recruiting 2,500 more GPs, and rebuilding the NHS that saved his life.

Streeting himself started out the day with a big dose of whistling and practically announcing “nothing to see here” by humble bragging about how busy he is:

Then on Good Morning Britain this morning, Streeting was asked by Susanna Reid if she knew who was stirring up these rumours and briefing against him. His reply was classic Wes:

I think if the Prime Minister knew who it was, he would sack them

However, when Reid asks if this means Starmer has lost control of his office and then should he sack whoever is briefing this news, Streeting replies:

My advice to the prime minister is don’t waste a single minute thinking about any of this nonsense, keep doing what he’s doing, keep rolling his sleeves up… that is the only thing that really matters. This stuff is Westminster bubble nonsense.

However much Streeting’s team might like to bat away the rumours, one thing is crystal clear: he is absolutely decimating the NHS. Over the past few months the Canary has reported on how:

Labour have bowed to Trump, meaning NHS prices will skyrocket
Resident doctors are set to strike again after NHS “betrayal“
Muslim women who work for the NHS and support Palestine are being targeted
The NHS have been caught using surveillance tactics on patients.

These rumours are all well and good, but it’s never a good sign when this kind of corporate journalist political gossip is used to hide the real story – thank goodness for independent media.
