Jess Phillips is wrong – it’s absolutely time to globalise the in-fart-arda

Fake working class wally Jess Phillips has been espousing incorrect opinions just in time for sprout season. This time the insufferably right-wing Birmingham MP decided to hold court on a word she cannot even seem to say, let alone understand.

We know Phillips likes to go on the really big platforms to make an arse out of herself. Today was no different. Asked on LBC if she saw the word ‘intifada’ as having “overtones of violence”, Phillips said:

I think calling for a global… to globalise… the [sic] infartarda… can only really have… uh… uh.. I’m not sure what other interpretation there is of.. eh… infartarda other than like an uprising…

Birmingham’s own Oscar Wilde there.

At that point the host corrected Phillips that the word was “intifada”. Phillips continued to ramble aimlessly for over a minute. To be honest, it’s nearly Christmas, it’s been a long year and nobody can be arsed listening to Jess Phillips talk absolute tosh – but if you really feel inclined:

'So you will share the dismay of many that the BBC described it as "largely unarmed and popular"?'@NickFerrariLBC asks Labour's Jess Phillips if she thinks 'intifada has overtones of violence', as those who call for it to be 'globalised' now face arrest. pic.twitter.com/5M9QuI03kr

The comments gave us life though. The Tribune’s Karl Hansen had it right in his response to Phillips making an absolute shitshow of herself on telly again:

Jess Phillips here claiming to know the true meaning of “infitarda” despite not even knowing how the word is pronounced. https://t.co/QxYgAhfmo4

— Karl Hansen (@karl_fh) December 18, 2025

And another X user made the very good point that the term would apply to other uprisings – for example the heroic Jewish Warsaw uprising against the Nazis:

Intifada means uprising. Like in Warsaw 1943, or Ireland 1916.
Maybe get someone on who understands it next time, let alone pronounce it.

Another commentator took it as evidence that the country is led by fools:

A government of irredeemably stupid people. Whoever thought putting Jess fucking Phillips on this was a good idea should probably avoid doing so again. https://t.co/ytesUmLJVy

Phillips’ typically considered response was well-received by some:

A very careful response from our Jess https://t.co/n71b18Js8D

— Mike Cosgrove (@mikecosgrove45) December 18, 2025

Others became a touch peckish:

Globalise the infitada, the Enchilada and the Quesadilla https://t.co/FtjWPGZkuw

— Felix Unger 🇮🇱 (@Husker_Ju) December 18, 2025

While X user Chris Kunzler made the much less whimsical, but still very important point that Phillips seems to lack even a fucking billy-basic knowledge of the history or meaning of the term:

The lack of intelligence and talent required to work in politics or media in the UK is truly astonishing. Even during the highly militarised second intifada, the vast majority of Palestinian participants engaged in non-violent resistance, the BBC, for once, is correct https://t.co/TW2ggZdcxR

— Chris (@chriskunzler) December 18, 2025

What does it mean?

The debate was about PM Keir Starmer’s latest idiotic plan to arrest people who chanted ‘globalise the intifada’ at pro-Palestine protests. Keith made the announcement yesterday. He tried to link it to the Bondi attack. Because he’s a scurrilous little shit with zero ideas, probably.

For the record, intifada does literally mean ‘uprising’. We know this because unlike Jess Phillips we bothered our arses to just asked one of our Arabic-speaking colleagues. It’s that easy, habibi.

Jess Phillips is author of four books – all about herself and how great she is, probably. But she doesn’t know what words mean. Nice. If, unlike her, you do understand words, you’ll know uprisings can take many forms. And that by no stretch are they limited to acts of violence.

We understand that what is actually going on here is another form of repression. From the proscription of Palestine Action on through to this latest authoritarian ban, these moves have always been about crushing solidarity with Palestine in defence of the genocidal settler-colonialist project of Israel.

But good luck with that, dickheads. Because the Canary crew, like so many other people around the world, won’t stop fighting for Palestine anytime soon.
