Luke Littler edged Luke Humphries 11-10 to win the Premier League title at the 02 in London, completing a tense, high quality final that went the distance. The result returned the trophy to Littler after a trilogy of finals between the two top ranked players and it underlined the narrow margins that separate the elite darts professionals.

Littler-Humphries: too close to call

The final was a study in momentum swings and clinical finishing under pressure. Humphries began with a blistering session, averaging well over 110 and producing a sequence of big checkouts that left him 6-3 ahead at the break.

Littler responded after the interval, tightening his scoring and finding timely doubles to drag the contest back into a nip and tuck battle. The pair traded legs through the closing stages, with Littler eventually sealing victory by hitting tops in the deciding leg.

Humphries opened with a dominant display of scoring and finishing, including a run of three spectacular checkouts that showcased his precision despite the pressure. Littler’s response was methodical, he relied on an improved scoring rhythm after the break and a handful of 11 dart legs to stay in touch. The match 9-9, then 10-10, before the final delivered the title. The quality of play was reflected in match averages and the frequency of high finishes, making the final a compelling watch for neutral fans and a hard lesson in resilience for both players.

Semi finals set the tone

Both semi-finals had already signalled that Finals Night would be tight. Littler survived a scare against Gerwyn Price, winning 10-9 after Price rallied from 9-4 down to force a decider. Humphries also needed the last leg to get past Jonny Clayton, prevailing 10-9 in a match that swung back and forth. Remarkably, all three matches on the night went the full distance, meaning every possible leg was played across the semis and the final. This was a rare and dramatic occurrence.

This Premier League victory adds to Littler’s growing list of major titles and cements his status among the sports elite. The win brings his major tally to eight, joining the World Championship, world Matchplay, World Grand Prix, Grand Slam, Players Championship, UK Open and World Masters among his honours. Littler’s ability to perform in high pressure moments has been a key element of his rise and this latest win reinforces that reputation.

The atmosphere at the 02 was electric and occasionally fractious. Littler has faced a mixed reception at times during the Premier League campaign, with sections of the crowd reacting strongly to incidents earlier in the season.

Tactical battle

Two tactical themes stood out. First, finishing under pressure decided the match. Both players produced big checkouts but Littler’s timing on doubles in the final stages proved decisive.

Second was momentum after breaks, Littler’s claim that he often comes out stronger after intervals was borne out as he shifted the match’s rhythm in the second session. For coaches and players, the final offered a compact lesson in match management and mental recovery.

This win carries a significant prize, Littler collected £350,000 while Humphries took home £170,000 as runner up. This has implications for season rankings and seeding in upcoming majors.

Beyond the immediate financial reward, the result will influence confidence and narrative heading into the rest of the calendar, where both players will be favourites at multiple events.

Final word

Both players will quickly turn their attention to the next block of tournaments on the calendar. Littler will aim to defend and extend his momentum, while Humphries will regroup and target a response.

For the Premier League itself, the trilogy of finals between these two has created a compelling rivalry that will shape the storylines for the rest of the year.

The 11-10 final at the 02 was a high quality contest that showcased elite finishing, a psychological resilience and the razor this margins at the top of darts. Littler’s victory is both a personal milestone and a continuation of a rivalry that has been central to the sports narrative. The result composure under pressure and laves the door open for further chapters between two of the games biggest talents.
