An offshoot of the national group

Stop the War Cymru has been established in response to the continuing crisis in the Middle East and to help coordinate anti-war efforts and messages of peace across Wales.

Stop The War Cymru

The organisation represents various peace movements across Wales who wish to see an end to war and Stop the War Cymru will be organising and supporting public meetings, marches, and demonstrations to promote an anti-war and anti-imperialism message.

Its immediate focus is demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and working towards a just peace in the Middle East.

Stop the War Cymru will provide speakers for the media to give an alternate voice on a range of subjects, including the escalating crisis in the Middle East, the Russo-Ukrainian War, and recent comments on national service in Britain.

The group represents: Stop the War groups from across Wales; Palestine Solidarity Campaign; Wales Labour Grassroots; Cymdeithas y Cymod; Cymdeithas yr Iaith; the Young Communist League Wales; the Welsh Communist Party, and has representatives from local Stop the War groups from around Wales and leading Welsh trade unionists and international solidarity campaigns sit on its steering committee.

Stop the war Cymru convenor Dominic MacAskill said:

People in Wales have now marched for peace in Gaza and an end to the slaughter every week since the Hamas massacre of Israelis and the taking of hostages on October 7.

Witnessing the developing genocide in Gaza we believe that Wales has a duty to join the international condemnation of Israel’s atrocities and the calls for a just peace in the region.

Wales is waking up to that duty. Last year, in opposition to the Welsh government and in response to grassroots pressure, a motion was passed in the Senedd in favour of an immediate ceasefire to the war in Gaza. Each week we are seeing more and more people on marches across Welsh cities calling for peace. It is time that our governments woke up.

We hope that Stop the War Cymru contributes to the continued pressure on our leaders to support an immediate ceasefire and guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people to statehood, peace, and dignity.

Mae Atal y Rhyfel Cymru wedi’i sefydlu mewn ymateb i’r argyfwng parhaus yn y Dwyrain Canol ac i helpu i gydlynu ymdrechion gwrth-ryfel a negeseuon heddwch ledled Cymru.

Mae llefarwyr ar gael i’r cyfryngau i roi barn a sylwadau amgen ar y rhyfeloedd ar draws y byd.

Mae’r mudiad yn cynrychioli mudiadau heddwch amrywiol ar draws Cymru sy’n dymuno gweld diwedd ar ryfel a bydd Atal y Rhyfel Cymru yn trefnu a chefnogi cyfarfodydd cyhoeddus, gorymdeithiau, a gwrthdystiadau i hyrwyddo neges yn erbyn rhyfel ac imperialaeth.

Ei ffocws yn y dyfodol agos yw mynnu cadoediad ar unwaith yn Gaza a gweithio tuag at heddwch cyfiawn yn y Dwyrain Canol.

Bydd Stop the War Cymru yn darparu siaradwyr i’r cyfryngau i roi llais arall ar amrywiaeth o bynciau, gan gynnwys yr argyfwng cynyddol yn y Dwyrain Canol, Rhyfel Rwsia-Wcreineg a sylwadau diweddar ar wasanaeth cenedlaethol ym Mhrydain.

Mae Stop the War Cymru yn cynrychioli: Grwpiau Atal y Rhyfel o bob rhan o Gymru; Ymgyrch Undod Palesteina; Llafur Cymru ar Lawr Gwlad; Cymdeithas y Cymod; Cymdeithas yr Iaith; Cynghrair Comiwnyddol Ifanc Cymru; Y Blaid Gomiwnyddol Gymreig; ac mae ganddi gynrychiolwyr o grwpiau lleol Atal y Rhyfel o bob rhan o Gymru ac mae undebwyr llafur blaenllaw Cymru ac ymgyrchoedd undod rhyngwladol yn eistedd ar ei bwyllgor llywio.

Dywedodd Cydlynydd Atal y Rhyfel Cymru, Dominic MacAskill:

Mae pobl yng Nghymru bellach wedi gorymdeithio dros heddwch yn Gaza a diwedd i’r lladdfa bob wythnos ers erchyllterau Hamas ar Israeliaid a’u herwgipio o wystlon ar 7 Hydref.

Wrth dystio’r hil-laddiad sy’n datblygu yn Gaza credwn fod gan Gymru ddyletswydd i ymuno â’r condemniad rhyngwladol o erchyllterau Israel a’r galwadau am heddwch cyfiawn yn y rhanbarth.

Mae Cymru yn deffro i’r ddyletswydd honno. Y llynedd, mewn gwrthwynebiad i lywodraeth Cymru ac mewn ymateb i bwysau ar lawr gwlad, pasiwyd cynnig yn y Senedd o blaid cadoediad ar unwaith i’r rhyfel yn Gaza. Bob wythnos rydym yn gweld mwy a mwy o bobl ar orymdeithiau ar draws dinasoedd Cymru yn galw am heddwch. Mae’n bryd i’n llywodraethau ddeffro.

Gobeithiwn y bydd Atal y Rhyfel Cymru yn cyfrannu at y pwysau parhaus ar ein harweinwyr i gefnogi cadoediad uniongyrchol a gwarantu hawliau pobl Palestina i fod yn wladwriaeth, heddwch ac urddas.
