As students collect their A-level results, many will be looking ahead at an increasingly uncertain future. Student-led campaign organisation answer to this? To stick it to US president and epitome of late-stage capitalist ruin Donald Trump.
A-level results: an uncertain, unstable future
Students heading to universities this autumn after getting their A-level results will face the first tuition fees increase in eight years. Graduate job prospects have shrunken massively since the pandemic, student maintenance support is inadequate, and the university funding crisis means more cuts are on the way next term.
This is all in the global context of the Israel’s genocide in Gaza and other wars, increasing climate catastrophe, and attacks on democratic rights.
That’s why Socialist Students will be meeting students on A-Level and GCSE results days across the UK. They will discuss what young people can do to take action for their futures.
Part of that involves standing up to fascist politicians laying the groundwork for all this.
Walk out against Trump
Socialist Students is calling for students to walk out against Donald Trump on Wednesday 17 September. This is the day Trump arrives in the UK for his state visit. It will urge them to protest against the chaos and brutality he represents for young people’s futures.
Adam Gillman, Socialist Students National Organiser, said as students get their A-level results:
Young people are being attacked on all fronts – from cuts to our services, to increasing fees, the soaring cost of living, and the horror of a future filled with uncertainty, war and climate catastrophe.
Donald Trump, who represents this increasingly unstable world, is coming to the UK on his unprecedented second state visit on September 17. He will be treated to an exquisite banquet with the King whilst thousands are starved in Gaza.
Socialist Students is organising the biggest possible walkouts of school, college and university students on September 17. We want to talk to young people collecting their exam results about how we can build the walkouts, to show the young people fighting back in America that we stand with them against Trump, Starmer and the capitalist system that they defend.
We welcome the announcement by Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana of their intention to found a new political party. In some polls it is projected to be the biggest party among 18-24 year olds, which shows the huge enthusiasm that exists among young people for an alternative to this world of capitalist chaos.

Good A-levels are no guarantee in Labour’s abysmal jobs market
WELL worded point above you make private sector business people, No exam levels are guarantee to get you work at all.
Some points I will make that concern me on our kids getting good paid work in the U.K. never mine overseas.
P-1
The result of the exams in all of U.K. considering our U.K. Tory Govt trashed our kids school for2 years the outcome is a bit iffy?
P-2
Labour Govt are allowing our young kids to vote next G.E. did Govt put any Influence on the Exams marker to give good grads?
P-3
The grades were better in poor area of U.K. this time, so some thing has changed dramatically we think could or maybe our Govt may or may not have talked to exam markers to give good result so the kids could or would vote for Labour party next G.E.
Footnote
Should we parent and our kid voting next G.E. have concerns the Govt may or may not have had a hand in their good exam result?
Has stated in this article exam result now do not guarantee well paid job in any country now. we must also take note of the bad unemployment figures in the U.K. now that are set to rise.
