The Green Party won 31 of the 60 seats in Waltham Forest borough in London, an ‘incredible’ win given they had no seats on the Labour-led council before. This is their first London council win.

The Greens have also won Hackney and Lewisham mayoralties.

Meanwhile, for Hackney Council, with counting still underway after 51 of 57 seats declared, the Greens have already won 38 seats — a gain of 36 since 2022 — while Labour has fallen to just 8 seats, a loss of 36. This means Greens now have two councils in London.

Faiza Shaheen said the victory for the Greens was incredible.

OMG I was at Waltham Forest count when Greens took the council
Went from 0 to 31 councillors
Can’t believe it! Incredible!
Congrats to all new councillors and @ZackPolanski

Matt Kennard predicted that Walthamstow Labour MP Stella Creasy will lose her seat to the Green Party in the next General Election, adding Zack Polanki should “do the honors.”

The genocidal Labour Party are getting run out of Walthamstow

Owen Jones celebrated the win, lovingly calling it “batshit.”

This is batshit.

The Greens had ZERO councillors in Waltham Forest.

They just won 31 councillors – and have won control of the council! https://t.co/PTUPWK6hXy

Labour took 14 seats, compared to its previous 33 seats.

From zero to thirty-one, Waltham Forest has turned Green.
