BREAKING: Starmer restores Labour whip to McDonnell, Begum

Why they would want it is another matter

Keir Starmer has restored the Labour whip to former Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell and Poplar and Limehouse MP Apsana Begum, presumably part of some desperate attempt to curry favour with a Labour left on which Starmer has waged a relentless war since he lied his way into the party leadership by promising to heal divisions and build on Jeremy Corbyn’s policies.

Why the pair – two of seven MPs suspended in 2024 for refusing to vote for Starmer’s decision to keep poor children hungry by keeping the Tories’ ‘two child benefit cap’, which costs more to keep than to scrap – would want the toxic Labour whip back is another matter entirely and a real head-scratcher.

I hope Airlane1989 is wrong and that they will both tell him where to stick his whip and elect to sit as Socialist Independents.
    Fuck Starmer !

Begum might (and I hope will) . She’d be a good addition to a future ‘Your Party’ .

McDonnell ? I suspect not. He’s long since blown his credibility.

Ah, but we all secretly know in the Reality-Based Left that Airlane 1999 is quite correct…

We will never have a democratic government while whips continue, they devised a way to make policy that not all MP’s and their constituents want, the system is flawed, we need a proper democratic way forward, we need a government that wants to work for the people, we need a government that listens to the people.
