In an incredibly out-of-touch move, George Osborne has announced to the world that he is joining OpenAI as ‘managing director and head of OpenAI for countries’.

Hi, some personal news – I’m changing job. I recently asked myself the question: what’s the most exciting and promising company in the world right now? The answer I believe is OpenAI. So it’s a privilege to be going to work for OpenAI as managing director and head of OpenAI for…

George Osborne heads to top of shit heap

Of course, a rich, white, powerful man can decide who he wants to work for and erm, let me check…walk straight in as managing director?

The arrogance. “I recently asked myself the question: what’s the most exciting and promising company in the world right now?” And then he immediately secured a plum job with them. How easy it is for the rich elites. Most people in this country struggle interminably to secure even… https://t.co/PgD3CujOyv

And of course, the guy has no qualifications in AI (because yes, they exist). Instead, he has a 2:1 degree in Modern History.

Can’t read an Excel spreadsheet,

Continues using it as an excuse for austerity (screwing the UK as a result) for years after the mistake was identified.

Now going to work for a tech company.

A reminder – Gideon has a degree is history.

So should know how bad this is. https://t.co/X4bdPBduzW

But we know what OpenAI really want – Osborne’s shady political connections.

They obviously hired George (2nd class degree in history and a couple of disastrous budgets) for his AI expertise. Not as a socially acceptable form of corruption thinking he’ll open the right political doors in Europe. https://t.co/lqZoWnHGhm

Of course, the privately educated, University of Oxford graduate who just happens to be friends with Peter Mandelson and Nathaniel Rothschild.

So you now have yet another reason to avoid AI.

AI continues to attract the biggest cunts imaginable. https://t.co/rJ4i4TJzFE

There was me thinking that surely OpenAI can’t be as dodgy as they’re said to be. I’m now thinking they’re worse than that. https://t.co/JC3vqBN6Se

The same man who gave us austerity is now joining a company that is responsible for destroying the planet.

SHOCK: Worst person you know joins evil corp to do more bad shit https://t.co/xqc831tAsy

Osborne is probably about to slash its budget, though.

Chat GTP-austerity, launching in January 2026.

If Georgie serves OpenAI as well as he served the UK’s economy, the crash may come even sooner than we dared to hope https://t.co/xSK1WMEdqy

— Philip Challinor (@pchallinor) December 17, 2025

Osborne is not the first disgraced UK politician to join the tech or AI world.

Alongside Sunak going to Microsoft/Anthropic, another very clear sign the AI industry is going to push hard for subsidy and lax regulation. And they’ll get it.

Does anyone really believe Osborne knows anything about AI — apart from, clearly, how to use it to write tweets? https://t.co/imCTM4aTiT

Failing upwards

Of course, a regular person screws up as badly as Osborne, and they probably won’t work again. At least not in such a well-paid or public position.

Obviously, that does not apply when you’re born into privilege and attend private school.

Nothing to see here but a Chancellor who destroyed an entire generation’s future and earning potential by starving the country through austerity measures, now continuing his journey to better and bigger places.

So kids, you can screw up really badly, but unlike Osborne, you will… https://t.co/Eni59mRiHf

The fella who, 15 years ago, chose to f*ck the UK over by refusing to take advantage of historically low bond yields so he could “balance the books” (despite not even achieving that) would like to tell you all how well he is continuing to fail upwards.

Slow clap on 1, 2, 3… https://t.co/Nq0EninTbo pic.twitter.com/6l1DH0eajj

— Citizen K (@PrimeShade) December 16, 2025

AI is stealing jobs, destroying the planet, killing the creative industries, spreading misinformation, has strong ties to a genocidal, apartheid regime, and is even responsible for the suicides of several children.

So it sounds like just the right amount of shady to say that George Osborne will fit right in.
