Abu Obeida’s death confirmed – but even this won’t pause Israel’s genocide in Gaza

The al-Qassam brigades confirmed yesterday, 29 December, that Israel killed five senior commanders including its masked spokesman known as Abu Obeida. The announcement confirmed Obeida’s identity for the first time as Hudhaifa Samir Abdullah Al-Kahlout. The others killed in the attack were chief of staff Mohammad Sinwar, Rafah Brigade commander Mohammad Shabana, manufacturing head Raed Saad, and commander Hakam Al-Issa.

Then group spoke of its “pride and honor” in the slain officers.

Abu Obeida dead

The Israeli military claimed to have killed Abu Obeida in August 2025, but the death was not confirmed by the militia group at the time. The occupation has claimed that its many breaches of the supposed ‘ceasefire’ were to kill senior commanders. However, there has been no pause since the assassinations in Israel’s daily attacks, which have killed approaching 500 people. Thousands more have been wounded. The victims have disproportionately been children.

Israel killed the five in a three-missile attack on an apartment building that also killed at least seven civilians. Around 30 others were wounded. The tactic mirrored the attack that killed Lebanese militia leader Hassan Nasrallah along with more than 600 civilians.

Abu Obeida had been the armed group’s official spokesman since 2006. Israel continues to murder civilians daily. It also continues to block food, medicines and shelters during a harsh winter.
