The US is a rogue state and must be treated as one

As if there were any lingering doubt after over two years of aiding Israel’s Gaza genocide and Trump’s piracy of Venezuelan oil tankers, the US proved it is a rogue state under Trump with the mass attack on Venezuela overnight and the apparent abduction of its elected president Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

It’s time for the US to be treated as the pariah it is, until its people and system do the right thing and put Trump and all his enablers in maximum security prisons where they belong. Unless there is concerted action by South and Central American countries, by the BRICS group, by the world, the US will remain a threat to all.

Venezuela shows the US is out of control

The US fancies itself self-sufficient. It isn’t. Without products from China and India, without oil from Western Asia, without trade with the rest of the world, and without political collaboration from national ‘leaders’, it would flounder. Those leaders could, at the very least, fire a political warning shot across US bows that would give even the lunatics currently in charge pause for thought.

They won’t, of course. Realpolitik will rule the cowardly minds of those in ‘power’ as it always does. Brazil, to Lula’s shame, already showed that when it blocked Venezuela’s entry to the ‘BRICS’ group earlier this year on a pretext of believing US lies about Venezuela’s presidential elections. Independent electoral experts describe Venezuela’s electoral systems as world-leading and ‘unriggable’.

But the people of countries that refuse – again – to act to rein in the US need to pressure them. Alternative media need to be relentless, because the captured corporate and state media will continue to lie for and about Trump and the capitalist machine.

Imagine just for a moment that a country’s military abducted Trump, or the leader of a European country. Or that Tehran’s troops took Netanyahu. The world would be immediately up in arms, denouncing the move as terrorism. A handful of UK MP’s have condemned the Venezuela attack but Keir Starmer, at the time of writing, has still not condemned Trump’s actions – reportedly waiting to see what Trump saays. What a surprise. Green Party leader Zack Polanski is a rare exception to this:

The PM and Foreign Secretary should be condemning this illegal strike and breach of international human rights law.

After years of arming a genocide and worshipping the “special relationship”, Trump now believes he can act with impunity. https://t.co/HuUD26aGy5

But even of those who have spoken out, too many have parroted the US’s lies about Venezuela – like LibDem leader Ed Davey, who said the attack was wrong despite Maduro being a “brutal and illegitimate dictator”. Dictators don’t arm their citizenry in response to the US threat.

Action, now

The US is a rogue and terror state. Enough is enough. Enough has been enough with every drop of Palestinian blood, every drop of Syrian, Iranian, Yemeni, Venezuelan, Sudanese and other innocent blood spilled by US-enabled regimes. With every democratic leader toppled for decades by the US to install a right-wing puppet, just as Trump plans to do in Venezuela with the appalling Machado who welcomed his aggression. All for oil, and nothing to do with drugs, of course.

But just as cowardly leaders took no meaningful action against the US for any of its countless crimes before last night, they will do nothing now. The world has been a dark place for billions of ordinary people for a very long time, with the US and its enablers at the heart of most of it. If Trump – and Israel – continue to enjoy impunity, the world will slide over the edge of a very deep precipice.

Dictators also dont get elected via an electoral system generally reckoned to be the fairest in the world.
