Former Labour NEC member Mish Rahman joins the Green Party

The Green Party has gained another high profile defection. Mish Rahman is a former member of Labour’s national executive committee. He left the Labour Party in April 2025, accusing it of being:

as repugnant as the Tories and Reform – indifferent to suffering, complicit in injustice, devoid of integrity.

Rahman’s statement on joining the Green Party

Politics must be about clarity and courage.

We are facing a convergence of crises: the rise of the far right, a cost of living emergency pushing working-class people to the brink and civil liberties eroded by successive governments. These are not abstract threats, they are lived realities for millions.

Today I have joined The Green Party because it is prepared to confront these challenges honestly: to defend democracy, stand up for social justice, and recognise that economic fairness and environmental responsibility are inseparable.

These crises are being reinforced by a right wing Labour government and actively exploited by the far right. The growing electoral threat of Reform UK particularly across the West Midlands and beyond in the upcoming local elections poses a serious and immediate danger to our communities. Their politics are rooted in racism, Islamophobia, climate denial, and division. They offer no solutions to the cost of living crisis and no vision for public services or social care – only hate, scapegoating, and resentment.

The Greens have been consistent in standing against the politics of hate; defending migrants and minorities; opposing genocide and endless wars; and fighting for environmental and social justice.
I am determined to organise, build coalitions and act with a clear moral stance grounded in solidarity and internationalism. This is where I believe my energy can best be used right now. I remain committed to working with all those who share these goals. The stakes are high. What matters is what we build together, and how we confront the forces threatening our communities.

My decision is based on urgency. We either meet this moment with conviction, or we allow it to pass us by.

Join me. Join the Green Party.

Walsall Greens statement

The Green Party has long been campaigning for environmental, economic, racial, and social justice, and having an experienced campaigner such as Mish Rahman join our team here in Walsall and across the Midlands is only going to strengthen that fight and help us win real change for local people.

We’ve seen our local party membership increase by almost 300% in the last six months, and we know there’s a huge appetite for Green politics in Walsall. We’re harnessing that growing support and turning it into a serious challenge in May and beyond.

We are standing the most candidates we’ve ever stood in local elections, contesting 19 of the 20 wards across Walsall, and in a majority of the 60 seats up for election in May. That means more people than ever before will have the opportunity to elect Green councillors in their community.

Walsall Green Party is here to deliver practical, people-focused solutions – warmer homes, stronger communities, and a fairer local economy. But we can only do it with your help. Join the Green Party, vote Green in May, and together let’s fight for a stronger, fairer, greener Walsall.

Given that the Labour party was denuded almost entirely of its socialist members under the leadership of the hapless Jeremy Corbyn, what should socialists conclude from the growing number of current Labour members going over to the Greens? The conclusion must be that the Green party attracts the kind of people that Starmer kept, not those he rejected for being too leftist or too pro-Palestine. This middle-class, bourgeois party has little or nothing to offer the working class. We need an independent, revolutionary socialist organisation of our own to overthrow capitalism. The Greens would rather die than be that.

Oh dear, poor you, triggered again. Off on another negative rant against the Green Party.

No one will ever be proletarian or ideologically pure enough for you. Still at least you are the last virtuous revolutionary in the UK, good luck with saving the working class. It seems that you have no interest in humanity in general or the natural world, come to that.

In the meantime the rest of us can try to do what we can to seek solutions for all within the Green Party, lol.
