The national executive (NEC) of the NASUWT teaching union has approved a motion to boycott, divest from and sanction Israel at its May monthly meeting. The motion was sponsored by NEC member and NIEC Global Solidarity Committee member Raymond Beggs. It brings NASUWT policy in line with most other large education unions.

The motion is titled “Alignment with Trade Union International Solidarity Policy.” The union has not yet formally announced the resolution. However, a NASUWT members solidarity group said:

The current right-wing Israeli Government, has been responsible for the deaths of more that 65,000 Palestinians in Gaza and many hundreds of innocent Palestinian lives in the West Bank, through its continued military operations there. The Israeli government continues to authorise new illegal settlements, expelling Palestinians from the West Bank and East Jerusalem, demolishing homes and schools, and failing to prevent armed settlers from terrorising villages killing and attacking Palestinians, destroying homes and agricultural lands.

The TUC, STUC & ICTU all have policies in place to boycott the goods of companies seen to profit from illegal Israeli settlements and the illegal occupation of Palestine.

The National Executive affirms its commitment to supporting workers making ethical decisions in the consideration of human and workers’ rights, international law, and environmental concerns linked to the behaviour of foreign states.

National Executive resolves to:

Reaffirm its support for Palestinian rights, including a commitment to boycott the goods and services of companies who profit from illegal settlements, companies that have had an involvement in promoting supplying or servicing the Israeli military, prison or security services while Israel conducted an illegal occupation of Palestine and companies that have had an involvement in the construction, maintenance or operation of the Wall dividing Palestinians and Israelis.

Excellent but according to Dr Richard Hil and Dr Gideon Polya: ‘Skewering History: The Odious Politics of Counting Gaza’s Dead’ (The Lancet, 14/9/25) report on the death toll of Palestinians killed in Gaza so far, “680,000 have been killed in the Gaza Genocide, with an estimated 480, 000 children included in the total.”
“It is forbidden to kill: therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.”
    – Voltaire (quoted in Erigy.org 14/9/25).
Oh and yes we need to protect all diverse citizens in the UK and as £1.5m extra is allocated to community organisations to address anti-semitism (2,283 religious hate attacks against Jewish people in England & Wales for year ending March 25) but can we also expect £3m for Muslims (4,478 religious hate attacks by March 2025).
But we can multi-task and also still pursue via the ICJ – UK politicians, CEOs of arms companies & pension funds & heads of organisations etc that are complicit in the Genocide in Gaza.

Add Russia and the US. They all need to be sent to the timeout corner until they take care of their rogue autocracy problems.

For my part I can see NOTHING wrong in boycotting those companies who ties to Israel(whose current leaders “Bibi” Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant are currently under ICC indictment on charges of crimes aganst humanity) any more than I would do so for those with ties to Putin’s Russia(alos under ICC indictment)!
