The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) is set to come under renewed pressure for its disgraceful failure to cease its sponsorship agreement with backer of the ‘Israeli’ genocide Allianz. A new report by Middle East Eye reveals that the German insurance giant is:
…the single largest foreign financier of the Israeli state – holding more in Israeli government bonds than the US, the UK, France and every other country put together.
The new info is based on fact-finding by Dutch researchers Profundo. Perhaps most damningly, Profundo senior researcher Ward Warmerdam described the funding of Zionist atrocities as “deliberate”.
Middle East Eye also quotes BankTrack campaigner Max Hammer, a group which “monitors commercial banks’ impacts on human rights.” He said the investment represented a:
…clear disregard for human rights responsibilities and international legal obligations.
As outlined by UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese in her Economy of Genocide report, it is illegal to assist a regime that is clearly involved in horrific crimes. Allianz was one of the companies named by Albanese. In total, the Allianz group had, by September 2025:
…amassed approximately $2.67bn in Israeli government bonds across its various fund subsidiaries.
Allianz pays for Zionist atrocities
This is likely not even the full extent of it. Allianz’s US subsidiary PIMCO is the main buyer of ‘Israeli’ bonds, yet their purchases for external clients are not visible in Profundo’s data.
As Middle East Eye point out:
Governments issue bonds to raise money for public spending or to repay debts.
Essentially, Allianz lends money to the ‘Israeli’ regime, enabling it to pay Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) their wages, and purchase the weapons they use to massacre people across West Asia.
In return, Allianz gets an interest payment of 5.56%, much higher than typical government bonds. The Zionist entity has hiked its rates since commencing its post-7 October 2023 wave of atrocities. This is to attract investors to what would otherwise be the unattractive prospect of low returns from a pariah state with an uncertain future.
The latest revelations make the GAA’s already abysmal position now totally untenable. It’s hard to imagine a worse sponsor, other than perhaps one of the arms companies directly supplying weapons to so-called ‘Israel’. Allianz sends money to Tel Aviv, which is then used to pay for the killing of Palestinians. Allianz profits from the interest on the money sent, and then hands part of those proceeds to the GAA.
A five-year-old could tell you this is morally wrong. Yet the GAA’s own kangaroo Ethics and Integrity Commission conjured up a whitewash, and recommended that the association retain the sponsorship deal.
The largest sporting association in Ireland has resisted continuous protests about its ongoing ties to Allianz, whose name features on GAA websites.
GAA must face legal challenge for whitewashing key genocide backer
The pressure has had an impact, with GAA president Jarlath Burns losing his cool when he made appalling remarks following protesters storming the organisation’s annual congress. Burns compared the occupation of the venue to Zionist occupation of Palestine, then went on to make further tone-deaf comments about loyalist atrocities. The Irish News report how a “prominent Ulster GAA official” even conspired with the Garda to harass protesters conducting a peaceful demonstration about Allianz at a recent Monaghan fixture.
While the GAA stonewall refuse to back down, even some asset managers — hardly regarded as left-wing radicals — are taking the right course of action. Courtney Wicks of the Center for Monitored and Ethical Investment said:
Some managers are reducing their exposure to [Palestine-related] human rights concerns in response to political or reputational pressure, rather than strengthening conflict-sensitive stewardship frameworks.
Legal risks might be a concern too. Irish campaigners are taking the Football Association of Ireland and the Irish government to court over their own sporting failure, namely the decision to push ahead with an upcoming match against ‘Israel’. It can’t be long until similar action is taken against the GAA for allowing itself to be used as a platform to whitewash Allianz, one of the key corporate backers of the Gaza holocaust.
