Musk ‘Grok blocked’ as Malaysia, Indonesia take action over ‘deepfake’ sex images

The governments of Malaysia and Indonesia have blocked access to the X social media platform’s ‘Grok’ AI, citing Elon Musk’s refusal to prevent it creating naked or sexually explicit deepfakes. They are the first countries to ban it.

The UK far right went into meltdown last week over rumours that Keir Starmer was planning to take similar action. US politicians threatened to sanction the whole country. In reality Starmer, never one to do the dirty work if he can pass it off to others, was asking regulator Ofcom to take action. Far-right figures, including the fascist Tommy Robinson, promised street riots to defend the platform, neglecting to mention that the potential ban was because of Grok’s use of sexualised images of children via artificial intelligence.

Grok scandal

However, ‘kid starver’ Starmer’s track record makes it clear that he has no interest in protecting children. Starmer refused to take meaningful action against Peter Mandelson when Mandelson’s closeness to series child rapist Jeffrey Epstein was exposed; Starmer mocked anyone who opposed his plan to keep the UK’s poorest children hungry. He doesn’t care about kids, but he’s happy to exploit the idea of protecting them to attack a social media platform used widely by his many, many, many, many critics.

So far, X owner Elon Musk has refused to disable the AI’s ability to create deep-fake nudes and pornography. Instead, he moved it behind a paywall so only paying subscribers can take people’s photos and strip them naked. Victims’ groups condemned the move as an insult.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission said that the AI will be:

blocked until effective safeguards are implemented and urged the public to report harmful online content.
