Labour’s Manchester Rusholme MP Afzal Khan is on the campaign trail for Andy Burnham in the Makerfield by-election. Voters go to the polls tomorrow, 18 June 2026. The Canary asked him to name a policy that Burnham supports — and got a lot of waffle in return.

Labour — U-Turnham?

In fact, Khan seemed unable — or perhaps unwilling — to mention any policy that Burnham stands for. But he’s sure that Burnham “has views on the policies” and that “the policies will be there”. This quandary likely stems from the fact that any time Burnham has been associated with a policy that’s any different from the diseased regime of Keir Starmer, he seems either to have ditched it or confirmed he won’t scrap what Starmer has done.

‘Enjoy’ might not be the right word, but it’s an illuminating watch:

Vote Burnham for more of the same but with a less annoying face?
