New figures show a 53% rise in coronavirus registered deaths in one week
The number of weekly registered deaths involving coronavirus has risen by more than half in seven days, new figures have shown.
There were 670 deaths registered in England and Wales which mentioned “novel coronavirus” in the week ending 16 October, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.
This is a rise of 53% from the previous week, when 438 deaths involving Covid-19 were registered.
It is the sixth consecutive rise and the highest number of registered deaths involving Covid-19 since the week ending 19 June. There were:
Deaths increased in all regions in England and Wales, and in hospitals, care homes, hospices, private homes and other communal establishments.
The biggest rise was in those over 90, with Covid-19 deaths almost doubling – 132 deaths in the week ending 16 October, up from 67 deaths the previous week.
About one in eight (12%) of the 4,346 registered hospital deaths in the week ending 16 October involved coronavirus.
Looking at hospital deaths on the day they occurred, there were 86 deaths on 15 October.
This is the highest number of daily deaths for four months, since 90 deaths occurred in hospitals on 10 June.
North-west England had 229 deaths involving Covid-19 registered in the week ending 16 October – the highest number for the region since the week ending 5 June, according to the ONS.
In north-east England, 93 Covid-19 deaths were registered in the week to 16 October, which is also the highest since the week to 5 June.
In Yorkshire and the Humber, 87 deaths were registered: the highest since the week to 19 June.
The south-east was the only region to have fewer deaths from all causes than the average for this time over the past five years.
Deaths in hospitals remained below the five-year average while deaths in private homes and care homes were above it.
The figures take the total number of deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK to more than 61,000.
A total of 59,927 deaths have so far been registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, including suspected cases, according to the latest reports from the UK’s statistics agencies.
This includes 54,609 deaths in England and Wales up to 16 October (and registered up to October 24), which were confirmed by the ONS on Tuesday.
Since these statistics were compiled, a further 1,044 deaths are known to have occurred in England, plus 36 in Scotland, 62 in Wales and 47 in Northern Ireland, according to additional data published on the government’s coronavirus dashboard.
Together, these totals mean that so far 61,116 deaths involving Covid-19 have taken place in the UK.

Is the canary contractually obliged to use the language of hysteria with regard to Covid19? I’ve noticed some graffiti mentioning a thing called a ‘scamdemic’, while my own research has revealed a death rate of 600.000 each of the previous two years. If you reduce that to a weekly rate – it comes to roughly eleven and a half thousand people per week. We murder nearly as many sheep and lambs each year for the dinner table and roughly five and a half million Soviet citizens died every year the USSR fought Nazi Germany in WW2. The latest information on the ONS website reports that, “In week 42 the number of deaths registered in the UK in the week ending 16 October 2020 (Week 42) was 11,928, which was 726 deaths higher than the five-year average and 569 deaths more than Week 41; of the deaths registered in the UK in Week 42, 761 deaths involved COVID-19, 287 deaths higher than in Week 41.” 726 as % of 11,928 = 6.1%; 569 as % of 11928 = 4.8%. There were 761 deaths attributed to Covid19 in whole of UK, with 287 more than previous week; that’s an increase of 60.6% on the 474 attributed death’s increase on previous week. Since testing began in earnest we have more ‘cases’ but the mortality rate, as noted by https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2020/10/covid-19-and-the-political-utility-of-fear/ is “… under 1%. … People <65 years old have very small risks of COVID-19 death even in the hotbeds of the pandemic and deaths for people <65 years without underlying predisposing conditions are remarkably uncommon. Strategies focusing specifically on protecting high-risk elderly individuals should be considered in managing the pandemic. … for adults of working age the risk of dying of coronavirus is equivalent to the risk of a car accident on a daily commute." I would have thought that a media outlet that proclaims a leftish agenda would have something more substantial to report than a reiteration of an MSM-like propaganda piece that seeks to justify the next tranche of AUSTERITY into the livelihoods of the common people.
