DoJ unveils new plot to keep Epstein Files hidden from public eyes

As we reported, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) has seemingly done everything it can to keep the Epstein Files secret. Despite being legally mandated to release the files without unnecessary redactions, the DoJ released the files with — you guessed it — unnecessary redactions. In response, politicians have sought to bring in an independent monitor to oversee proceedings.

Now, the DoJ is seeking to block this monitor before they can do any monitoring:

NEW: The DOJ has filed a motion to block the appointment of an independent monitor to release the Epstein files in the Ghislaine Maxwell case.

The DOJ argues that federal courts lack the authority to enforce the Epstein Transparency Act and that Reps. Ro Khanna and Thomas… pic.twitter.com/7FCvrlJ5ng

Epstein Redacted

Previously, the government was unable to release certain files relating to Epstein and his alleged accomplices because of the trial (and subsequent appeal) of his right hand woman Ghislaine Maxwell. This changed when Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which made it both legal and mandatory for the Justice Department to publish all of the Epstein documents.

In the runup to the release, congressman Ro Khanna said:

Tomorrow, my bill will force the Trump Administration to release the Epstein files.

Any person who attempts to conceal or scrub the files will be subject to prosecution under the law. pic.twitter.com/K6wdxNV0kF

Despite this, the released files are incomplete and heavily redacted:

Only 10% of total files released.

90% of the released files were redacted.

So ~1% of the files were truly released.

I'd love to see MAGA defend this BS.

Why is the DoJ covering up for pedophiles?! https://t.co/CXkyl6r8ee

Analysts quickly confirmed that redactions included information which the government and other sources had previously released unredacted. It also turned out that they botched some of the redactions, allowing people to copy+paste the underlying text into a new document. This made it clear that many redactions were not made to protect potential victims. Which were the only sort of redactions permissible under the law.

Redactions aren’t the only issue, either. Amazingly, the DoJ has apparently found millions more files:

“There are no more files, case closed.”

Six months later after @RepThomasMassie & my Epstein Transparency Act.

“There are a million files.” https://t.co/iLfV4UMVyu

This behaviour from the Trump administration has led people to yell “paedophile protector” at the president. Not helping this image, former Trump loyalist Marjorie Taylor Greene claimed that Trump said releasing the files would ‘hurt his friends‘.

The question, of course, is what have they done which would be so damaging?

Special master

This seemingly corrupt behaviour is why Democrat Ro Khanna and Republican Thomas Massie called for a “special master” to oversee the release:

.@Lawrence, Judge Engelmayer has shown great integrity and diligence by requiring the Epstein files to be released in accordance with the Epstein Transparency Act.@RepThomasMassie and I wrote to him to request that he appoint a special master to ensure we get the files without… pic.twitter.com/m1AV2EYi13

According to new reporting from Meidas Touch, however, the DoJ is arguing that “no federal court has the authority to compel such disclosures” — i.e. that no one can impose a special master upon them.

While the legal arguments being made are complex, the facts of the matter are not. Once again, the DoJ appears to be doing everything it can to not release information on a dead paedophile and his billionaire associates.

We wonder why that is?
