Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire Green Party now has 12 councillors on Cambridge City Council and came within just nine votes of breaking onto South Cambridgeshire District Council.
Naomi Bennett, leader of the Green group on Cambridge City Council said:
Thank you to every voter and campaigner who helped get Greens elected in Cambridge. We ran extremely positive campaigns and are very proud that residents came out and voted for hope not hate in overwhelming numbers on Thursday.
Cambridge residents voted for change and we will deliver. Our new councillors will work hard with our existing Green councillors to protect and improve local services and make sure they work efficiently for residents in Cambridge.
Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire Greens are celebrating a successful set of results from the 7 May local elections. The party now has 12 seats on Cambridge City Council and came tantalisingly close to breaking through onto South Cambridgeshire District Council with Shelford candidate Miranda Fyfe missing out by just nine votes.
Fyfe said:
We are pleased to have come an extremely close second in Shelford (by nine votes) and in Histon & Impington (by 150 votes). We have been saying for months that it would be between Lib Dems and Greens in these wards, with no risk of Reform gaining seats in Shelford or Histon and we were correct!
South Cambridgeshire Greens will continue to campaign for real hope and real change here, holding the Lib Dems to account to deliver for people and planet, not profit and greed.
Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire Green Party won a total of seven seats on Cambridge City council, with six new councillors elected and one seat held. The new councillors elected in Cambridge are:
- Maria Cleminson (Abbey – Green hold)
- Sefira Davison (Arbury)
- Kathryn Fisher (Petersfield)
- Sarah Nicmanis (Coleridge)
- Alex Sage (Castle)
