Jeremy Corbyn just got some thrilling news that will send his opponents reeling

Jeremy Corbyn has now surged ahead of Theresa May in an opinion poll on who would make a better Prime Minister. And it was undertaken before May’s disastrous speech at the Conservative Party conference.

Poll

The poll puts Corbyn two points ahead of May for the public’s preferred Prime Minister. His PM approval rating has risen by four points to 32% while May’s has fallen by two points from 32% to 30%. And Labour received more good news as its ratings increased to 42% while the Conservatives dropped to 37% in the BMG Research survey.

Conservatives in crisis

These polls come on the back of a week to forget for the Prime Minister. She was pranked by a comedian at the Conservative Party conference, who handed her a P45. She has had to grapple with divisions in her own cabinet, in particular regarding Boris Johnson. And the EU has just stepped up talks with Labour on Brexit, casting doubt on its trust that her party will continue in government.

Labour in the ascendancy

The turnaround in Labour’s fortunes under Corbyn continues apace. And the Conservative Party’s problems persist. It has divisions over Brexit. And the public has grown skeptical of the need for continued austerity, the government’s policy since 2010. May, as this poll shows, is also increasingly not viewed as the favoured PM.

These factors, along with Labour’s popular manifesto, have combined to bring Labour into the ascendancy. And while the bad news just hasn’t stopped raining down on the Conservatives lately, it could be about to get worse still. Because Theresa May is being urged to make a decision on whether to sack Johnson or keep him in her cabinet.

Either way, things aren’t going well for the Conservatives as a whole. And that is music to the ears of Labour.
