In a special episode, I meet one of the most influential reggae artists of the past two decades: Lutan Fyah.

Lutan is renowned as one of the most groundbreaking acts to emerge in recent times. He is known for his searingly conscious lyrics, vocal prowess and musical ingenuity. Now, he has released another trail blazing record. But this one is a distinct departure from his last album Music Never Dies. The new project is called Longest Livah. As with all Lutan’s work, it is an extremely conscious record, tackling politics, poverty, violence and spirituality. But what’s new is the musical approach. Lutan has diversified from his roots reggae grounding. Longest Livah is a glorious mix of genres, from dancehall to soul via afrobeat and traditional African folk music. It is a remarkable piece of work which may well serve as his seminal project.

So, I caught up with Lutan for the #ToppleUncaged podcast. We discussed Longest Livah, his spirituality, the geopolitical situation in Africa and more.
