Ex-speaker John Bercow defects to Labour, criticising ‘xenophobic’ Tories

Former speaker John Bercow says he has switched allegiances to join the Labour Party. The former Conservative MP became the scourge of Brexiteers as commons speaker.

Bercow said he regards the Tories under Boris Johnson as “reactionary, populist, nationalistic and sometimes even xenophobic”.

He stepped down as speaker in 2019. On Saturday 19 June, he announced that he has joined Labour in recent weeks.

He told the Observer:

I am motivated by support for equality, social justice and internationalism. That is the Labour brand…

The conclusion I have reached is that this Government needs to be replaced. The reality is that the Labour Party is the only vehicle that can achieve that objective. There is no other credible option.

Says a lot about Labour as a party, when a stout and lifelong Conservative can identify with their views.Other than that, kudos to Bercow for standing tall.

Now that is an odd response to not getting a knighthood ! I call that a shot in his foot. Keir Stalin is leading the Labour Party on a lemming’s jaunt over the cliff to the bottom of the sewer & John goes with them…….what a lack of judgement by JB !!!

Bercow, Corbyn and McDonnell, should all NOT have resigned their positions. People were RELYING upon them, and this is not the time for fruitless ‘Honourable’ gestures.

We sure as hell won’t get such from the BloJo Tories, and the Brexshit Brigade.

But, it is what it is.

    Bercow is a good bloke.
